Hello everyone !! For the past 19 years, I have been battling 'unrelated' health problems, only to find out that I have only ever had one very tricky issue. Mercury poisoning. OK so the issue is what am I meant to do about it ?? Other than being 100% SWAMI compliant which I am already. Heres the catch, I think its a 'gene defect' - not so much actual mercury exposure . . . (I eat 90% organically, drink purified/filtered rain water, supplement/don't have fillings/don't wear makeup or use cosmetics) The good news is I realised I don't have any other health problems. I guess that is partially due to having the best software available (thanks Dr. D!) Help!! Or anyone gone through similar ? P.S. - Mercury levels are through the roof!!! |

Thanks Lola - is that just pesto made from cilantro ? Or ... should I add pine nuts and chard leaves ??
I am on all of these very interesting supplements at the moment (which I don't usually take), such as
- MSM - Marine algae - Magnesium malate - Garlic (aged) - Resveratrol (ok not so interesting but thought I would add it) - Chlorella (not sure if allergic but ... at this point 'who cares')
I'm on heaps more but can't think of them all right now -
The interesting thing is that I always assumed my health was poor because I wasn't doing something right, rather then 'I was born with an independently minded gene' |

Yes I think it is genetic.. I am O and I had worked with mercury for 10 years in my hand.. I also had mercury fillings in my mouth since the age of 3.5.. and so my exposure was enormous, but It never showed up in my tests.. lucky me..
I would expect many to tell you what to do, but in the end I would call the D’adamo Personalized Nutrition store.. and ask them..
BUT I have another idea.. at least for me.. could you do more damage by removing the stuff??? RATHER then BUILDING up your body's way to et rid of it with BTD/Swami dieting..
This is a question that Dr D might have answers to in the ER4YT Encyclopedia.. have you looked at the protocols there? I am not certain of they are posted here some place.. or if there is a Q&A some place for this very specific question..
I am glad you are approaching it with your thinking as you do.. how did you come to find out about the mercury? who tested you and why? How do you feel it? Your answers might be revealing.. |
| When I see other peoples medicines schedule-I am happy to be here taking care of my health I only wish to drop weight more easily-life would be perfection Being 'here' creates understanding. BTD prevents damage from eating avoids. Thanks Dr D & your sups - all support and friendships |

My Health Practictioner also had mecury poising without any fillings and recommends Ion (foot) cleansing, on a once a month basis. She uses clinician grade equipment, only recommended once a month.

Try far infrared sauna - soo good, feels like sunbaking on a beach but without the burn or harmful effects, sweating is a great way to detox heavy metals. I had almalgam filings since early child hood too |

When I first started BTD/GTD, I would sweat like crazy and it smelled sour. I fell off the wagon for a few months and had to start GTD from scratch. My sweat, once again, smelled sour but I noticed a "mineral" smell on my skin a few days later. I found that the GTD makes me sensitive to smells after a while (and I cannot stand artificial flavors or scents as a result). I was wondering if it was my showerhead and water since the water has high mineral content but it also smelled metallic... you really have me wondering now... |

I actually wonder because I removed my 4 mercury fillings April 2011. I experienced major symptoms after like severe itching, skin breakouts, etc. They say the mercury load in your body increases when you get them out. I drank cilantro (huge handfuls) and banana smoothies two times a day and took bio algae concentrates and the symptoms got knocked out in about 2 weeks. I felt horrible though. Back on track I think... |

WOW ! Thanks for all of the responses !! Glad to hear everyone has their thinking caps on Ok firstly just to clarify, I have no amalgam fillings - I have had every sort of pathology testing in the past, and EVENTUALLY we decided to get a 'hair mineral analysis' - and good thing we did. After this, of course, I had a whole lot of other tests to confirm the results. So I have always been on supplements (for the last oh, 4 years) - the older I was, the sicker I was. One test lead to another test which led to a handful of supplements and perhaps a drug here and there. @ Andrea - So many supplements to try and rid as much out of my system as possible, as I have read that both intense exercise and saunas can be ineffective as toxins may be released into the bloodstream - so these are targeted at other areas of detoxification. @Passion princess - Yes, sweating like crazy is something I'm very familiar with, which means showering 2 x per day is a necessity. Of course, now I am worried about the water I am showering in ahahah Oh another thing is I am actually a health nut, which means no alcohol, just incase any of you were wondering. Of course, I don't smoke either. Any other ideas ??? @Goldie, I will be looking in the ER encyclopedia in the next few minutes, since I have it on hand !! I think the place to go is the clinic ahahah but unfortunately I can't imagine myself hopping on a plane to the states' ..... I might get put on some sort of drug that is 'safe' that may help get rid of it faster. Will find out tomorrow !! I'm certain the BTD/GTD + SWAMI changed my genetic expression in many many instances however I had no idea that one of my genes could be influencing heavy metals in my body. @Wholefoodie - the foot cleansing sounds good. I've had problems with my feet, being so inflamed, or itchy, or skin peeling right off. At one point they have been fleuro pink in colour !! @Mark - Thanks for your advice + the video was amazing! Will watch it again as I am a big fan of both TED + Mark Hyman. It reminded me we have one of his fantastic books, which i will give a look at soon @Niagreen - I feel sort of like a car not running on all cylinders if that makes sense. Like I need a constant 'top up' - not sure exactly what gene defect I have but hopefully my toxicologist will be able to tell me tomorrow, although I suspect this is something I need to research myself. |

"@ Andrea - So many supplements to try and rid as much out of my system as possible, as I have read that both intense exercise and saunas can be ineffective as toxins may be released into the bloodstream - so these are targeted at other areas of detoxification" This may be a silly question...but if toxins aren't released into the bloodstream to be liberated from inside cells how do they get out? Doesn't everything have to move through the blood to get in or out? |

Good point Serenity, I asked the same question but apparently we can move a lot of the toxicity out through our bowels/urine as opposed to using an organ such as the skin.
Not being qualified, I have no idea really how it all works and am just going by what I have been told! |

I have heard that as much as 80/90% of the mercury comes out through the bowels. I have been using a sauna but that can become too draining sometimes. Showering can also be very tiring.
It seems mercury toxicity can be such a long arduous process with so many ups and down. The problem is that once you've had it for such a long time it kind of 'hides' itself away in the body as a way of protection, and you lose the things you dont need, like hair and skin quality! and it also mucks with the thyroid.. it makes you susceptible to parasites and viruses, its systemic affects are enormous. It can pretty much cause anything.
I'm a big fan of Mark too - his own story is a big motivator for me to get my metal levels down. |

I was dumping tons of mercury through my stool by taking glutathione orally and with a gel rubbed on my liver and kidneys. From the first day I took it I noticed a HUGE difference in the way I felt. |

@honeybee, thanks for that, I usually use LifeExtension or NewChapter fish oil, and luckily I know they have never been a problem because I had all the symptoms before taking any supplements! But fish oil is something I always dish out top $$ for due to the risk of rancidity and toxins/mercury etc. |

Quoted Text
Quoted Text Cilantro Chelation Pesto
4 cloves garlic 1/3 cup Brazil nuts (selenium) 1/3 cup sunflower seeds (cysteine) 1/3 cup pumpkin seeds (zinc, magnesium) 2 cups packed fresh cilantro (coriander, Chinese parsley) (vitamin A) 2/3 cup flaxseed oil 4 tablespoons lemon juice (vitamin C) 2 tsp dulse powder Sea salt to taste
Process the cilantro and flaxseed oil in a blender until the coriander is chopped. Add the garlic, nuts and seeds, dulse and lemon juice and mix until the mixture is finely blended into a paste. Add a pinch to sea salt to taste and blend again. Store in dark glass jars if possible. It freezes well, so purchase cilantro in season and fill enough jars to last through the year.
Cilantro has been proven to chelate toxic metals from our bodies in a relatively short period of time. Combined with the benefits of the other ingredients, this recipe is a powerful tissue cleanser.
Two teaspoons of this pesto daily for three weeks is purportedly enough to increase the urinary excretion of mercury, lead, and aluminum, thus effectively removing these toxic metals from our bodies. We can consider doing this cleanse for three weeks at least once a year. The pesto is delicious on toast, baked potatoes, and pasta.
to that you can add chlorella and other chelating agents.......bon appetit!

Was the gel also glutathione?
It is mixed with ostrich fat/oil, I believe. But yes, there is glutathione in the gel and it seeps into my kidneys and liver and does... something!! I preferred it this way because the oral is just very potent and always threw my system into too large of a change fast. |

I have read that you can bathe in msm as well to help detox. I have just started taking msm. It is giving me headaches. I know I am still toxic. Would love to have the money to get the test done. I was exposed to many toxins in my past, mercury, lead and black mold to name a few. |

Chlorella is known to remove heavy metals out of the body. They bind to the chlorella cells. Along with cilantro that's a good natural way to do it. |

I did some research into why the headaches, it is due to detox and that I should increase the amount of water consumption and avoid anything that can dehydrate you like alcohol and coffee. I dont have a problem with the latter but will have to increase water. |

Yes, water is good. I drink 2 liters daily and have for a long time. Although some do say it can pull out some minerals. I'm not sure about all that, I just know that most people agree that the half your weight in ounces is what you should do. |

Chlorella is good, I have been using this, perhaps haven't used enough based on what I'm reading. I read somewhere that if you eat Cilantro for the detoxing you need Parsley to help escort the toxins out of the body, perhaps needs double checking. |

I think parsley aids the kidneys. NEED is a strong word. Plus there may be other things that help it. Lemons, limes, grapefruit, apples, cranberries. Etc. But even in this I think individuality is key. Some things may work better for one person than another.
But I think there is a component to what you're saying that might get overlooked sometimes. When you take things that help move the metals, it has to get out. And so you may need things to help get it out. Sometimes starting the Detox process can cause a log jam because things don't always move out as quickly as they started to move inside. If that makes any sense. My doctor calls it "overloaded". |

Doctors in functional medicine have a lot of experience in getting rid of mercury. Mercury is very, very toxic. It is a good idea to get some chelation therapy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IhkLcpJTV9M
