I'm sure that my husband will put the latest update about my uncle on the blog but in the meantime let me tell you that he went to see the oncologist on Monday and all of his levels were normal! His white blood cell count was that of someone who does NOT have cancer. Woo-hoo! She laid him out on the table and felt all around his liver and said that she still did feel a mass. However, without doing more prodding with x-rays and such she doesn't know much more. She didn't want to do that for fear of aggravating whatever cancer might still be there when he's obviously doing so well. In the meantime he's living a normal life... except for his taste buds. The cancer destroyed them and nothing tastes good to him. Is there anything he can take to help that? I don't even understand how it happens. They are trying to get him to gain more weight but he doesn't want to eat because nothing tastes as it should.
Thanks for the help. |

A small thing, who knows, it could help a little bit. Have him brush his tongue gently and thoroughly after he brushes his teeth, morning and night with a soft bristle brush. Brush back to front, frequently rinsing brush, until the tongue is clean and free from coating. Also brush the inside of cheeks. Rinse and slosh with warm water with a bit of sea salt and baking soda. Then gargle. |

Lola, do you mean that cells still need to be restored? And, having bone both will do that? What is in it exactly that would help him, do you know?
Thanks |

They're still doing all of that. He has cheated some. Not bad though for a guy who's lived his whole life on hot dogs and hamburgers. My Mom got seriously involved and really gives him what for when she sees him cheating. She says, "Oh, so you want me to call in your grandkids and tell them to say good-bye to Papa because he's decided to commit suicide?" Well, he doesn't like it but it does give him a better picture of the kinds of decisions you make in a weak moment.
Anyhow, I just wondered of there was anything specific which might help him. I guess we're just at the waiting stage of his body continuing to heal, clean and purge.
Does anyone know exactly why cancer does this to taste buds? This isn't rare. Apparently it happens to most patients. And my uncle hasn't had any drugs or liquid poison so it's not that.

Interesting...my mom (90) has cancer (terminal...all her organs) too, but is getting these great blood readings and feels fine!!! She is, by her choice, taking an oral chemo regime which is called "palliative" and it is really working for her! Man, that woman is invincible! |

Praise God, Leanne! I have been wondering about him lately. Not on the boards or FB as much. |

Thanks, I'll probably do that. What I'm wanting to know is how in the world it effects your taste buds and what can we do to off set it?

Some have had results at getting their sense of taste back by taking zinc. So, my mom is going to attempt to get him to take some and see what happens. |

I have a friend at church who had lymph nodes under his jaw removed because of cancer. He told me that it's like his taste buds are on steroids since the operation, and it was good because he could taste his wife's cooking so much more intensely! |

Thanks Vicki. I remember the pumpkin seeds being bad for him because we were wanting to give them to him for another reason last fall. I don't recall why I just remember that they weren't good for him. |
