Hi Well I've had back pain on and off for thirteen years but it's bec ome chronic since January...I get pain in my groin after sitting too long, pain in my lower pain too...walking elevates the pain but I cannot sit or stand for too long..I've noticed I tend to arch my back when lying down and looking on my iPad ..I'm pretty sure that's causing it too..now my question is , as a B I would be susceptible to chronic fatigue or fibromyalgia and am wondering is this is what i have? My energy levels are good when I'm not in any pain and so is my mood, my sleep is ok too ..it's just the pain that's making me down ...any opinions? I've tried acupuncture and its helped a lot initially after my injury..then I started going to the pool and just moving around and that's good too..I guess my problem is muscular even though I have bulging discs at L4/5 and S1 but my dr seems to think that is not the cause of my back pain as there is no narrowing or pressure on nerves. I take magnesium and B6 and I guess that helps ...any opinions please? Thanks |

What have you changed diet wise since January?? I had an allergist suggest very strong magnesium supplements once that caused me those symptoms. I still have to watch how much is in a supplement. |

You mentioned that you put on a little weight. If it is around the middle, it can be just the extra thing that is making your back more painful. I too have herniated discs, cervical, thoracic and bulging discs along the lumbar area with some stenosis. I have pain much like you do. What helps me is working on the strength of my stomach muscles with what ever exercises you can do to help that. The stronger your stomach muscles, the better the support will be all around your back. Do what you can, maybe using one of those balance balls. Acupuncture did give me some relief, but the cost made me stop. I had to go every week or more frequently to get relief. It might help you if you can afford to go a few times a week in the beginning and then settle into a routine of once every two weeks or even less often. When you are in bed at night with your Ipad, try put a pillow under your knees to help flatten out your back. I usually bend my knees and keep my feet on the bed like sitting in a chair. That flattens the back too. What also helps me is a hot bath in epsom salts and baking soda at night before going to bed. |

You mentioned you had an injury, what type did you experience? If you have chronic groin or hip pain, you may want to have your hip evaluated for an injury. I have similar chronic pain in that area but it also is aggravated by different exercises. I have recently been diagnosed with a torn labrum which is kind of like a cartilage gasket around the hip. One of the symptoms is pain in the groin or hip flexors after sitting for long periods. |

Exercise... yoga... weight training etc... Strengthen the muscles around the injuries and you will feel much better. |

I wish it was that easy lol no, I'm not Thanks for the feedback, yes acupuncture has helped, the dr said at the start that I needed twice weekly sessions and then the pain may appear somewhere else so he will chase it as it appears, this is exactly what's happening...the last two treatments were on one side at a ti e at specific areas...the quardum lumbar and the glute on the other side! The general back pain is improving from the acupuncture ..also, it's free and bulk billed so I'm not paying a cent which is great |

Careful sometimes they like you to come in cause they get paid. no matter how wonderful they are. You will need to take control of this and get yourself to some exercise. Did you read Dr. Nenninger's blog? talks about how our insurance sometimes keeps us sick. |

I also agree with AKArtlover who posted about EGOSCUE. I don't have the DVD but I did get his paperback book.
The exercises are relatively simple (almost too easy I thought to make a difference) but even though I don't do a whole routine it has made a huge difference in my posture.
I'm much more aware of my right shoulder that used to droop. You would be very surprised , I feel, at the sketches of the three conditions that most people fall into.
It really is worth looking into especially if you are sitting alot.

And I also agree with AKArtlover re: Egoscue, a great resource for whole body. I'm having similar issues but no back pain....yet. Plus I am just recovering from plantar fasciitis All this is due to an ankle injury, bike fall and a job where I sit in front of a computer. Oh, and my age I didn't try accupuncture, although it was on the list, but used bowen therapy. Right now I'm feeling pretty good. What really helped my hip and quad area muscle pain was stretching. After searching on the internet, I discovered this: our bodies are meant to be upright or squatting not sitting for hours. Duh! Our hips are rebelling. Of course, just like BTD, we're not meant to consume grains and packaged food Do a google search on mobilitywod. I learned great stretches for my hip area and I'm feeling so much better. My favorite is to sit in a squat for 10 minutes, tough to do but I worked up to it. I read or watch TV that way.... yes my kids think I'm a weird There's another one, lay on your back with bottom against the wall and your legs in a V up the wall. Then bring your feet down the wall, toes out and knees out. Now you're in a sideways squat against the wall. Do that for a couple of minutes. This is easy on the back too. I also used a somatic therapy when my hips were obviously uneven. Hopefully this helps you out. |

I got the Egoscue Method of Health Through Motion paperback. It really does address the skeleton and how it should work.
I suppose if you have a pain issue the other one would be good but I'm not familiar with that one.

I had this type of pain. It was coming from my lower back and/or hip. I also had some sciatica at times. It all went away when I got bioidentical hormone therapy. If it were me I would also look into MSM, Dr. D's recommendation for an anti-inflammatory for B's. If it were me I would start with thinking it were an inflamed nerve. |

Try incorporating new lifestyle elements slowly into your regimen. Soon they will become habits.
Still, the damaged soft tissue will not really heal if you do not eat the liver that Dr. D'Adamo recommends Nomads consume frequently. Liver can be delicious if you know how to prepare it well. |

Thanks for the recommendation. The diet does great at minimizing pain, exercise does the rest. That might help me understand the best kinds of exercise. My right leg is about 5/8" shorter than my left, and that makes for some interesting imbalances all up and down my body. A heel lift in my shoe helps a great deal, but I can't wear shoes all the time, and a lift just isn't the same as having symmetry. |
