I used to be able to eat vegetarian meals occasionally (beans plus rice and veggies) occasionally, like several times per week without problems, and my Swami allows 4 veggie protein meals per week. In the last couple of weeks, though, I have not been able to tolerate these meals and have gotten very light headed aboput an hour afterwards. I am not diabetic, as far as I know, and have a normal hemoglobin A1C, checked with an over-the-counter test. I have no insurance and prefer not to go to a doctor unless I need to, but this is starting to concern me as I have had problems with metabolic syndrome in the past. Do I need to see a doctor? Any suggestions? I am not having any veggie protein meals right now unless I add some animal protein along with it to prevent the problems. |

Beans and rice used to be my favorite food...but since eating more animal protein on the btd/gtd, I have not been able to even think about eating that. I actually don't think I like beans any more! It's so weird. I think about eating beans and I almost get nauseous! I can honestly say I've eaten beans or lentils pretty much every single day for the past 5 years or so. Now I hate them.

Maybe shift around how you eat- instead of 4 veggie protein meals, have 8 meals that are half veggie protein and half animal protein. Or, if you get any dairy, maybe have your cheese with the beans and rice, or maybe have beans, veggies and cheese, so you're not having the carbs from beans AND rice at the same meal. |

I do meat and vegetables lunch and dinner and fruit in between, on egg and protein pwder, and cocoa powder, and spices, so life is easy for me and not much need of more..
someday I might add the other stuff but for now I have no need.. I do eat prunes , but I might change to prune juice after next week. they kep all things moving .
If sugar is not on issue in your family, then I would not worry yet.
if heart issues are something to be concerned then that is another issue,,then eat a banana every other day.
but just most of all eat often enough, and keep to benficials and super/diamonds and you should be settling into better health ..soon . |

you do not eat meat? rerun swami and mark the glucose part of the picture...... veggie protein will never give a hunter like you the protein needed for health |

I do eat meat most of the time, but I also enjoyed having a few vegetarian meals per week. Lola, I will rerun Swami as you suggested. Thanks for the suggestion. |

I just checked and the blood sugar box was already checked as a problem. I think I will go with Ruthie's idea of using some meat when I have beans, and having 8 meals like this per week instead of 4. I have had problems with metabolic syndrome in the past so I am thinking maybe I am having some insulin resistance problems and need the animal protein with all meals because of that. |

I agree with Tom, listen to your body. As a Hunter, I need quite a bit of meat. I would not leave animal protein out of any of my meals, and decent size portions, too! |

Sounds good to me - I have always LOVED animal protein! My parents always used to say it was because I had to have a meat-based formula as a child (couldn't tolerate milk and no good soy formulas at that time). |
