I was wondering if anyone knows if there is a connection between a high ferritin level and atrial fibrillation? I am due to see a cardiologist in a couple of weeks so will ask her. I am having an echo. Hard telling what she will say. Thought maybe someone here might be able to give me an answer. Thanks everyone. Maryann |

get the cardio book, meanwhile very targeted and might give you answers you need |

It can cause rapid heartbeat, but that's about the extent of my knowledge on the matter. How high is your ferritin?
Asking the cardiologist is a good idea. Asking the doctor that ran the ferritin test what you should do about that finding would also be a good idea. That doctor may want to do other tests, I think (if I remember correctly) there are a few tests that have to do with ferritin and your doctor may want to run those if he/she hasn't already. |

Thanks for your comments. I do appreciate them. I do have the cardio book and the encyclopedia but I haven't seen anything that related to both the a fib and ferritin. I have also checked the archives. My doctor is going to consult with a hemotologist about the ferritin level. It is 625 normal is 6 - 250. All of my other iron levels are normal. I think I will have them run the ferritin again to make sure it is right. I don't always have atrial fib, just occasionally. I have had it twice in a short period of time once 12/26/10 and 2/12/11. I am on atenolol for it and magnesium. I have always gone to the ER and they convert it back with medication. Have had it maybe 6 or 7 times since 1996. Thanks everyone for your help. Maryann |

Has anyone mentioned Wolf Parkinson White Syndrome? When you go to the ER, do they give you an injection to bring your heart rate down?
One thing, though, I think WPW is discovered much earlier in life. My husband was diagnosed in the eighth grade. |

Would not surprise me that there is a a link, ferritin is also related to the thyroid, the pathways are complex and they overlap.
Did you have your thyroid checked as well? I would scrutinize your diet as well as any supplements that you take. Most things come from the gut so think about what you do on a daily basis for your gut. |
