All right, my uncle with the apple sized tumor in his liver finally saw Dr. Nash.  For starters he's a B Nomad secretor.  This is the first time that anyone in my family has done BTD/GTD, other than when they're sick, so it's quite interesting.  And fun too!  The whole family is getting on the band wagon and supporting him and helping him to make sure that he eats right.
My Aunt flew home from Alaska to help him out some.  His wife died 5 years ago so he's all alone at the mercies of his two children (who have small children of their own) and siblings.

So, Dr. Nash put him on some pretty strange things!  Least wise we all thought it was a bit different but my uncle feels good, so, whatever works, I reckon.

Here's the prescription:
Typhoid vaccine - 1 cap every other day
ClearCal - 1 cap every other day
Espresso - 3 shots (I think, every other day as well)

This one here is only supposed to be done for a week and my Aunt told me that it's to make the cancer sticky so that all good food he eats will stick to the cancer and destroy it.  This is coming to be at least 2nd maybe 3rd hand so someone else may need to clarify this.

Then she's got him on:
Berberine - 200 mg 1 cap 2x's daily
ARA6 with pectin capsules - 3 caps pectin and 2 T ARA6 3x's daily
Huang/Qin/Scute - 1 cap 2x's daily (My Aunt said that this was abbreviated for something but she wasn't sure what)
Green Tea - daily

Anyhow, he's feeling really good.  We had him doing the BTD because we had no idea what his GTD was and quite a few things changed for him.  My Aunt, who's also a blood type B, said that she'd do it with him to help support him.  Well, she told me yesterday on the phone that she is definitely NOT a Nomad!  She said that ever since she's been trying to follow the diet with him she feels tired and lethargic.  She was doing better on BTD with him.  So when he's not looking she sneaks what she likes to eat.  But she's going back to Alaska anyhow within the next month.  She's just helping to get on his feet and learn to do this on his own.

So that's that!

Wow that is fantastic!  I am so glad your uncle was open and willing to see Dr. Nash.  And now that he is feeling good that is just awesome.  Dr. D consulting on the case is just icing on the cake.  Of course that would be a BTD/GTD compliant cake.

Please keep up posted with his progress.  Many blessings to your uncle, you and your family.

The Clinic had told my Uncle that they wanted him off of all of his meds except the blood thinner.  He takes PB meds and also something for diabetes (there might be more but I'm not for sure).  My Dad, who went with him for the visit, and my Uncle were pretty sure that they heard correctly but my Mom and Aunt were a little concerned that they wanted him to just drop those meds.  They called to confirm.  Sure enough, they wanted him off.
Well, Tuesday was the first day that he hasn't taken a diabetes pill in quite some time and he's always struggled at keeping his sugar out of the 100's.  Well, Wednesday his sugar was at an 86!  He was quite pleased that food is actually taking care of some of his health issues.

so may I ask sioncerely?.. the idea is to get rid of a tumor that size??

I am sorry .. I am not skeptical at all, just surprized that this should be possible?? I need much education here..

I wish everyone the best..

My uncle has chosen this route not necessarily to get rid of the tumor, ultimately that is our hope, but rather to have a good life for as long as possible.  He had three choices: Take chemo, go the natural route, or do nothing.
He has, I believe, 3 grandchildren and would very much like to continue living for their sake.
Chemo would have left him sick as a dog and still die within two years.  The docs in Boston also told him that the chemo would leave him with numbness in his fingers and toes that may never return.  At that point he decided that he'd rather just die than go through all of that.  But naturally the body has an extreme will to live.
It didn't really take a whole lot of persuasion to convince him and the rest of the family to go to CT.  It's only a 3 hour drive from them.  And I backed it up by saying, "You know, you can take all the vitamins in the world, eat everything that's supposed to be good for you and still be ingesting poison because without proper testing you don't know what your body actually needs.  EVERYONE is different and just because you know of a guy who cured himself of cancer by eating fresh tomatoes on a daily basis doesn't mean that it's going to work for you!"

He is doing really well.  He's still adjusting to the sudden change in eating, although he had begun to eat BTD about two weeks before going to the clinic.  I kept putting it off not wanting him to get in to a swing of things before seeing Dr. Nash.  But they kept bugging for the diet until they finally went and got a small booklet that gave just the basics.  It did exactly what I DIDN'T want it to do.  It really discouraged him.
I know my Uncle and if he could hear from a Dr. and see all the reasons WHY he needed to do this diet then it would carry a lot more weight.  He'd also been told by other people what worked for them and that was also being dumped on him.  So between looking at the BTD, comparing it to what others were trying to force down his throat and he didn't feel like he could eat anything.
My Aunt called the week before he was to see Dr. Nash and was very concerned.  He was loosing weight, he was very fatigued and for the first time he actually looked like he was dying.  She said, "I'm just going to let him eat anything he wants right now!  He looks terrible!  He'll see Dr. Nash soon and then we'll go from there."
I didn't argue with her and in fact think it may have been a wise decision on her part.  They didn't get stupid and load up on a bunch of sugar or anything but he finally ate something cooked.  Something he was advised not to do by somebody else.

Anyhow, that's that.

Just in case it was a question, which I don't believe that it is, but my Uncle is doing everything that he's been told to do by Dr. Nash.  He's not wavered from the diet and although he hates tea he drinks his green tea faithfully.  He figures that it's better than taking chemo.
He's not considering any other therapy at this time.  It was discussed about doing a couple of different natural therapies but was suggested that they wait until they see Dr. Nash first.  They did and they've been quite pleased with the results although it's been less than 2 weeks.

Anyhow, just thought I needed to add that.

I spoke with him last night and he's feeling great!  No detox symptoms that he mentioned.  His energy levels did a complete flip the very next day after seeing Dr. Nash.  He was feeling very lethargic before that.  And his energy has continued over the last two weeks (as of this Wednesday) since seeing Dr. Nash.

I'm pulling all of his information together beginning from when we first found out about this.  My husband would like for me to blog it on one of his websites.  We're also doing this just to have so that our families can look back on this time and know what happened.

I spoke with another Uncle last night, a brother to the one with cancer, and he was impressed at how well he looked and how he was doing.  I said, "Hey, maybe you should go down there to get YOUR diet!"  He only chuckled.

I reckon I could say more but I'm wondering at the ethics of it.  My Uncle is, after all, a patient of the Clinic and I don't know how private they want to keep everything.  I realize that if I blog his story else where it's still on the web but I don't want to do or say anything on here that would get me kicked off.

So, as of right now he's doing very well.  No pain and a couple of days ago worked most of the day splitting wood!

Wow! I'm glad to hear that he's doing well!

Even if he doesn't live past the 2 years the conventional docs gave him, I'd consider this a "success story" if he's energetic and feeling good in the time he's got left. I also suspect that a big part of his fatigue in the 2 weeks prior to his Dr. Nash visit was from malnutrition; the way he was trying to incorporate everything he read or heard about probably left him with very little in the way of "real food."

I've already cleared it with him and he said that he didn't mind so long as I didn't mention his name.  I hadn't so I'm good there.

Thanks for letting me know, Lola.

Yesterday my Uncle was up and down a ladder fixing a roof.  He wanted to make sure that you all knew that!  I thought that was comical.
Every evening he does a castor oil compress.  The cloth and oil are warmed and he lays it on his belly for one hour.  He said it helps him to relax and if there's any gas in his intestines it's seems to be gently eliminated.
I asked him what this was for and he wasn't sure.  I don't think it's to draw out toxins because he can use the cloth several times before switching to something different.  He wondered if it's seeping through his skin and the cancer doesn't like it for some reason.  We don't, at least not yet, have Dr. D's book on cancer which would likely explain some things.  Perhaps someone else can enlighten us.
I think it was Monday night he was microwaving the cloth after it had been in the fridge and he thought that being it was cold he'd have to heat it for a while.  The cloth is some flannel from a pair of pajamas my Aunt had.  I think they're suppose to use wool or 100% cotton.  They're working on that.
So he stuck the cloth in the microwave on a plate for 5 minutes.  To make a long story short he toasted his castor oil compress!

However the most exciting thing I'd like to report today is about my Mom.  She's been watching my uncle, as well as everyone in the family, and is just as surprised at how well he's doing.  She's shaped very much like my uncle.  Small, petite, weighs next to nothing, is a B blood type but I suspect that she's a non-secretor.  She's had a LOT of minor health issues over the years.  One of the things she's been plagued with are urinary tract/bladder infections.
Apparently she's had a bladder infection for the past month and a half that's been pretty bad.  I spoke with her yesterday and she told me that she's taken out peanut butter and is now eating almond butter.  She's eating the spelt bread that she's been making for my uncle instead of eating store bought bread.  She's using real butter instead of that squirt stuff out of a bottle.  And there were several other changes she talked about too. I was so shocked and pleased that I nearly cried!  Who knows, perhaps my Uncle is going through this to open the eyes of my family.
She said that she's felt better in the past week and a half than she has in a month.  She jogged to the end of their driveway (which is very lengthy) to walk the grand kids from the bus.  She said that she didn't remember the last time she had been able to do this.

Anyhow, really excited!

Flannel is cotton so no need to worry about that.
You can use the cloth for ever, no need to change it.. at least that is my recollection, someone will correct me if I am wrong .

Why do you put it in the fridge? my mom used one and I don't think she ever did that..

I'm glad to hear that your uncle is doing so much better, and that your Mom is starting to follow BTD too! Are your mom and your uncle the same blood type? Are they siblings or inlaws?

Oh, and the next time you want to reheat oil-soaked cotton in the microwave, it only needs 1-2 minutes, not 5. Set it to 30 seconds and check, if it's not hot enough, do another 30 seconds, if it's almost hot enough, set it for 15 seconds. 5 minutes in the microwave is a LOT!!!

I'm not really sure why they put it in the fridge but they did.  And I think he learned his lesson about not putting it in the microwave for FIVE minutes!

My Mom and Uncle are brother and sister.  They are the same blood type except that my Mom is a B-.  She hasn't gone through the measurements for her genotype but I'd suspect that she and my Uncle are pretty much the same.  With the exception that I'd put her as a non-secretor but she'd have to find out.

They all live in New England and I'm in far SW Missouri so I can't be close to them.  Otherwise I'd be there helping to adjust to the diet.

So the purpose of the castor oil compress is what?  Anyone know?

It's so heartwarming to hear how well your uncle is doing and the fact that it's opened your mom's eyes is wonderful.  It's been beautiful here in New England the past couple of days - that picks up the spirits too!

It sounds like a more gentle liver / gall bladder detox than on page 252 of The Genotype Diet book...  Done every day to provide more gentle daily action that once per month with the other factors...

Leanne thanks very much for sharing these events in yours and your family life.  It is heartwarming to see your uncle's progress and the rest of your family's awareness about this way of life increasing ... BTW, my grandma used to be a firm believer on the virtues of caster oil ... whenever we had any tummy problems, she used to rub it in our tummies ...

Quoted Text
Castor oil penetrates deep into the skin thanks to its molecular mass, which is low enough to penetrate into the stratum corneum
Quoted Text
The use of cold pressed castor oil in folk medicine predates government medical regulations. Cold pressed castor oil is tasteless and odorless when pure. Uses include skin problems, burns, sunburns, skin disorders, skin cuts, and abrasions. Castor oil has also been used to draw out styes in the eye by pouring a small amount into the eye and allowing it to circulate around the inside of the eyelid. Note that most bottles of castor oil indicate the oil is to be kept away from the eyes. The oil is also used as a rub or pack for various ailments, including abdominal complaints, headaches, muscle pains, inflammatory conditions, skin eruptions, lesions, and sinusitis. A castor oil pack is made by soaking a piece of flannel in castor oil, then putting it on the area of complaint and placing a heat source, such as a hot water bottle, on top of it. This remedy was often suggested by the American psychic Edgar Cayce, given in many healing readings in the early mid-1900s. Castor oil has also been noted for its acne-healing abilities.

was he told to reuse the flannel on a daily basis?

is he adding new oil every application, or reusing the one he had the first day?

it serves as a poultice directly on the liver.....so a new application of oil is advised

read the part in your GT book on the overnight liver cleanse
the pack affords the liver a means of removing fat soluble toxins

My Uncle had to see his regular doc because they wanted to test his blood to see if they needed to increase medication or anything like that.  He told them what medications he had quit taking and their mouths about dropped open.  They took the test results and told him that he needed to come back next week because the tests had malfunctioned!  They said that it had to be something wrong with the testing because there's no way that changing his diet could have corrected so many problems!  Hilarious!

A nurse took him aside and said, "Off the record, there's nothing wrong with your test results and I want the name and number of that Clinic you're going to!"

Wow!!!!!  This is such wonderful news and thank you for sharing this.  All my best to you and your family and your dear uncle.

Frankly, I think quality of life is everything.  He is living and feeling good and that is much much more than he would be doing on chemo.  I think there is a time and a place for everything and think it is wonderful he was able to choose how he wanted to handle the situation and then was supported by his loving family.  That is healing in itself.

Big hug to him and his "team"!

I found a little bit more about this nurse.  Apparently she's got some kind of issue in which the medical profession says can only be taken care of by surgery.  Thus her reasons for wanting to contact the Clinic.  They don't know what her problem is.

His primary care doctor, whom they've dubbed as Madame Butterfly (not sure why!) copied down all of the supplements he's taking and said, "I'll study on it."
She was pretty mad that he hadn't called and told her he'd changed some things.  Why do these kinds of doctors think they control your life that you have no choice in deciding what you will or won't take?  They act like they own you or something.
Perhaps some would argue that they could be at risk if something happens to that person.  But the oncologist that my uncle saw, after he was diagnosed with this, said that it was the cholesterol medication that caused this problem in the first place.  It was actually a "slip" of the tongue that she accidentally gave this information.  He wasn't suppose to know and it was my father that she said it to.
So they can get away with doing stuff like that but when you decide to go off a med they suddenly hit the roof as if you're going to make them maybe look bad or something!  Kind of messed up!

Wonderful isn't it.  Instead of being happy that you found something that is helping, they try to drive you away by being angry or upset that you aren't following their protocol...

It may also mean $ out of her pocket, if she isn't writing as many prescriptions or having as many office visits...

Their aim is not to cure but to maintain.  Money in both doctor’s and pharmaceuticals if you think treatment is helping but have to stay on it long term even for life if you want to continue feeling OK.

He went and saw the med doc again to retake those blood tests, or whatever they are, and all of his levels came back fine - again! Even without the meds!  I think they are mostly checking his blood for thinness.
Anyway, the doc is still upset that whatever he's doing is working and she can't understand it.  She wants him back in two weeks.  She still refuses to believe it!

IS he still bothering with the follow-ups for the medical doc, or has he given up on her by now?

We're updating the blog on a weekly basis.  So stay tuned.  I don't know the future details myself.

Quoted from Leanne

Here's the prescription:
Typhoid vaccine - 1 cap every other day
ClearCal - 1 cap every other day
Espresso - 3 shots (I think, every other day as well)

This one here is only supposed to be done for a week and my Aunt told me that it's to make the cancer sticky so that all good food he eats will stick to the cancer and destroy it.  This is coming to be at least 2nd maybe 3rd hand so someone else may need to clarify this.

So interesting re the espresso x 3, and the stickiness part too.

I also would like to send my best wishes to your Uncle. He's in the best hands with his family around him, and in the best care with an individualized nutrition / supplementation approach.

A Hunter! With my Gatherer hips?
