I get horrible reactions to mosquito and fly bites, although I have been tested and am not allergic to them. The welts get huge, red and itchy and last for days, often a week or more. I have tried everything on the market to reduce the itching and nothing really works. Mosquitos and flies really seem to like me as well, so I am covered with bites. Any suggestions? I have not tried the allergy protocol since I have been told this is not an allergy, but I am willing to try it if it might help. |

Look for standing water on the property. It takes 3 days of still water for mosquito eggs to hatch. Look for pots/lids/buckets that may have small amounts of standing water and dump them. Agitate larger sources of standing water every 2-3 days. Wear protective clothing. Add veggies to your diet, reduce sweeteners. Try lemon eucalyptus to repel mosquitos - test your reaction first. Apply to your hat rather than to your face/etc. As a kid, we'd put a little salt in the palm of our hand and add a drop or two of water. Then we'd massage the gritty combo on the mosquito bite. This would stop the itching pretty well. Collinsonia Plus may be helpful and can be purchased from NAP. http://www.4yourtype.com/prodinfo.asp?number=NP009 |

Wow, Ghee! I know it is good for healing the gut but I hadn't thought of it for the skin. I will try it since I always have a lot on hand. |

Vicki, Thanks for the suggestions about avoiding still water around the propery. Unfortunately I live in an apartment complex where there are lots of low areas for water to collect in, and there has been standing water for weeks because of all the rain we have had recently. Where can I find lemon eucalyptus? I'd like to try that, especially if it is safe around pets - my cats love to lick my skin and I need something that wouldn't hurt them. |

I keep a little bottle of Tea Tree Oil with a drop of vitamin E and a few drops of lavender oil. Used frequently, it stops itching, shrinks swelling and speeds healing! |

I like the idea of the tea tree oil. I might get some and try that, as well, especially if I can find the lavender oil to put in it since I love that smell. |

how high is your blood sugar? perhaps lowering it a bit, controlling your food choices in that regard might be a solution.....this approach has helped me become a deflect to mosquitoes.... they used to aim straight at me....not any more!!! yeah!! |

When I was in college, living on cheeseburgers and milk shakes, my friends loved to have me around when we went to the lake or on picnics. All the mosquitos in the area would settle on my body and leave everyone else alone. I still get an occasional bite, but I'll get one bite to everyone else's 10 bites. It is diet related! |

Lavender oil also treat well wasps and mosquitos bites, do not apply near the eyes or lips as lemon eucaliptus! pure lavender oil is very safe and tolerated by all skin and very useful also on fire, steam and sun burns ! |

I get horrible reactions to mosquito and fly bites, although I have been tested and am not allergic to them. The welts get huge, red and itchy and last for days, often a week or more.
The following is from James L. Wilson, N.D., D.C., Ph.D. book Adrenal Fatigue The 21st Century Stress Syndrome " Anti-inflammatory Effects of Cortisol Cortisol is a powerful anti-inflammatory, even when secreted at normal levels (Munck,'95). It acts quickly to remove and prevent redness and swelling of nearly all tissues. These anti-inflammatory actions keep mosquito bites from flaring into giant wheals, bronchial tubes and eyes from swelling shut from allergens, and mild scratches from looking like you have just had a close call with Jack the Ripper. Cortisol maintains the balance through the unwritten law that "for any physical body to remain in homeostatic equilibrium every inflammatory reaction must have an opposite and equal anti-inflammatory reaction." Although there are other anti-inflammatory responses occurring at local sites, cortisol is the main anti-inflammatory agent circulating naturally in your body. You can assume that almost any time you have an inappropriate amount of redness and/or swelling, there is too little cortisol in circulation." That was true in my case. I had the same same reactions as you and after finding out I had low adrenal function I started rebuilding them. You need to be sure you eat enough protein and also get plenty of vitamin C. Those two things are critical for healing the adrenals. Now my reactions to mosquito bites are just the normal amount of redness and little itching. It's one area to look at and see if your diet is low in either of those nutrients. |

I don't get too many mosquito bites anymore, but when I do I pop them with a sterilized needle and get the fluid out. Doesn't itch anymore and doesn't leave a mark. |

Karen, I do make sure I get plenty of protein but I am not too sure about the vitamin C - I take extra during the winter but stop for the summer. Maybe I will just take it all year round instead of stopping it. I wil restart it and see if that makes any difference. Lola, I read in a different thread that eating bananas seems to make you more attractive to mosquitos and I have been eating a lot of bananas recently. Maybe my blood sugar is too high - I tend to have some problems controlling it even though I am not diabetic and I have been diagnosed with Syndrome X. Maybe cutting out the bananas will help also and I know that will help me if my blood sugar is too high.. Amynell, I have found that if the top comes off the bites, they generally stop itching (unless I have a lot of them like now). However, I never thought of popping them with a sterile needle - I have always scratched the tops off and then had to deal with nasty scars and the risk of infection. From now on I will pop them with a sterile needle if nothing else works. So far the only thing I have tried is the ghee and that definitely helps. Today I also got some tea tree oil and some lavender oil that I will try. |

We love this stuff!! http://www.cedarcidestore.com/cedarproducts.htmlMy husband uses it all the time, as he's outdoors most of the day! Totally natural, and it really works to repel the bugs!! It's actually good for the skin!! A nice moisturizer, and smells like cedar, because it is made of cedar oil. It's also great for pest control in and around the house. You can spray it on plants, too!! |

I hope it works well for you! It kills all kinds of insects on contact in the house, too. So, great for the kitchen and children, etc.
You can get the large quantities and spray around your property...like your patio, etc. My DH asks me to spray him back and front before he goes out to work in our outer yard near our pond.
Did you watch those videos? |

I haven't had many bites since I started supplementing with B vitamins several years ago. There are many times when I'll get 1 or two bites, or none at all, while my kids (who were with me the whole time) got a whole bunch of them. |

I am happy to report that I now only have a few small, non-itchy bites in a few places. I used ghee on them and have used Yerba Mate and added Bromelain. I will be getting vitamin C and keep using that as a supplement. Ruth, I am already taking a B-Complex plus B12, so I don't think I will add any more B vitamins. I will be even more careful to get in enough protein, also to help with the cortisol. All in all, I am amazed at how good this is doing! I will be getting the Cedarcide and will use that to help prevent the bites in the first place. I was looking for the Yerba Mate last night at the grocery store and ran into a friend who is into eating naturally. She was interested in using Yerba Mate for the bug bites and also in using ghee for them. She had no idea that you can make ghee so I told her how. I told her about ER4YT and this awesome blog, and she is going to check it out. She has heard of ER before but not the blog. |

How long have you been taking the B vitamins? I heard that it takes a few weeks or maybe even a few months for the levels to be high enough to have the insect-repellent properties. So if you just got started, then maybe it just hasn't kicked in yet. I first started taking them in the winter so my first summer on B vitamins, it was already working. |

I have been taking them for about 18 months already beause I had gastric bypass surgery and my doctor felt I was not absorbing them well enough and I was showing signs of deficiency. Maybe I should take more?. I think the main reason I am getting so many bites this year is that it has been so wet here and with the standing water around the apartment complex there are just many more mosquitoes than normal, but I am not sure that's the only reason.. |
