It has many causes, knowing the cause helps to know the treatment.

If your jaw is out of alignment it can cause tinnitus.  Also, your C1 or C2 in your neck could be the problem.  Get this person to see a chiropractor.

Cheers!

How does kudzu rate as a food for you?  I've seen kudzu listed as a possible solution for tinnitus.

I have kudzu listed under carbohydrate in my SWAMI.

Both the supplement and the food are mentioned when I google for tinnitus.

Vicki,

I have an itchy trigger finger... I looked for it in the typeBase and did not see it then did a google search. Do you think it is in my LR4YT book..? If so I'll look after work when I get home.

I have not seen a food value given for Kudzu in Eat Right or Live Right.  Kudzu was first given a value with the Genotype Diet.

I found this article interesting:

Hi Golfzilla!

I've got hyperaccusis (everything is too loud in one ear especially high sounds cause buzzing) and tinnitus both ears.  It's difficult to put up with but I manage to ignore the tinnitus most of the time.  Wearing an ear plug for hyperaccusis makes the tinnitus worse but hyperaccusis better.  If I don't wear it with just everyday noise then I get pressure and pains in the ear.

I got some advice from Lola on this (http://www.dadamo.com/cgi-bin/Blah/Blah.pl?m-1253837147/s-407/highlight-tinnitus/#num407):

tinnitus is helped through diet......anti inflammatory is key.....
I don t think it would hurt her to try it out.....anti inflammation is great for anyone!

See this for lots of ideas
http://www.dadamo.com/forum/archive8/config.pl?read=45364

Confirming the above, saw this supplement in a chemist brochure (haven't tried it)http://www.tebonin.com.au/
Supposed to increase circulation and reduce tinnitus and vertigo. It is an extract from Ginkgo biloba, which I believe increases circulation.

There is also ear retraining therapy where a device plays full spectrum sound into your ear.  My ENT poo pooed it for me, told me it's very expensive and probably won't work for me with the hyperaccusis.

Kidzu sounds interesting thanks!

BTW mine seems to go up and down with inflammation.  Some days I will wake up and the slightest noise causes pain in the ear, followed by tinnitus at the same time all my autoimmune issues will be flaring up.

I don't drink coffee anymore, I think it has been better lately, hard to tell as your awareness changes all the time. Obviously, avoiding loud music or sounds really helps.  Loud noises cause ringing in my ear, so I actually think the phone is ringing!  I avoid the family band days now which have drums, electric guitars etc

Oh the quiet life for me

google kudzu
it appears kuzu is the equivalent of a type of arrowroot called Japanese arrowroot......also called kudzu!!

so kudzu is the vine we have in our swamis also called kuzu a powder
extracted from the kudzu root, thickens just like arrowroot, which is erroneously identified or named kuzu.....

I just mentioned this in our Spanish thread, cause those in Spain have seen arrowroot powder, named kuzu

the things we learn about in this forum!! amazing!

I used to get this before BTD.   The diet really helped to get rid of it.  Especially total compliancy.  I used to get a noise like there was a motor running in my head. Dizziness, feeling like my ears were full of c**p (and sometimes they were;) ) At first, I would check the front and side driveway windows to see if someone was parked outside with their vehicle running.  When I am overtired or stressed (which doesn't happen too often anymore and I have learned to deal with stress in other ways...O exercise and yoga among other things) I sometimes get a faint sound coming on.  I know then that I need to get to bed and rest.

Can excessive amounts of loud sounds cause Tinnitus?

People who are exposed to loud music are more likely to experience temporary Tinnitus. If one is exposed to loud sounds over long periods of time it result in permanent damage.

Overexposure to Loud Noises:

Repeated exposure to loud noises such as guns, aircraft, lawn mowers, movie theaters, amplified music, heavy construction, etc, can cause permanent hearing damage. Some people report auditory fatigue from driving over long distances with the windows open. Anybody regularly exposed to these conditions should consider wearing ear plugs or other hearing protection. (Please do not wear ear plugs on a continuous basis as this can lead to hyper sensitive hearing).

thanks for the great link Andrea! I've been suspecting and researching salicylate sensitivity lately and I'm amazed to see that implicated in tinnitus.  Earplugs seem to be my only choice or pain though.  Especially living on a main road - should change that for my ears sake.

Everyone must have had that after concert ringing in the ears the next day?  We went to a christmas concert yesterday and by the end of it even through the earplug I had to block my ear as it was buzzing on the high sounds.  Today the tinnitus is hardly there though.  Very strange how it fluctuates day to day from a buzz saw to languidly chirping crickets.    Probably inflammation and vitamin status?  Now I'm going to check my food diary for salicylates after reading that info.  Cheers!

Symbi, you probably already seen this, but here it is as useful info:
http://www.salicylatesensitivity.com/food-guide

Mmm, we may not be next to a main road, but between the roosters, the cookatoos, kokabarros, lorikees and the rest of the wild life, makes it for a full on orchestra.   But, maybe being natural sounds, the condition tolerates it better ...

Sounds like paradise Cristina!  Thanks for the link too. We are in semi-rural area so don't have to go far to enjoy the lakes and parks.

Love the way that every form of life seems to be able to thrive around here in SE Qld, though maybe too many of a certain species, you know what I mean  .

Lola, thanks for the great link mate!  Was just looking for a good salicylate food list, that's a great one.  Going to try reducing salicylates and see how it goes.  It's even in my 'gentle' mouthwash  .

BTW I get chronic sinusitis (recurring), mild asthma and headaches alot so they could be symptoms of salicylate sensitivity.

Have been looking into all the additives in our cupboards including the bathroom lately and have been     Even vegemite is suspect because of the colouring it contains (not that I eat it at the moment as it's a black dot of course , yeah right  ).
