I've only been on btd for one year. I can't remember the last time I ever had actual flu. I caught a real bad throat/cough in Uganda this year (July/August), not even a season for coughs and colds but I was sitting very close to some little ones really coughing and sniffing badly!!! My BTD diet was difficult for me whist travelling but to be honest I just put it down to 'wrong place at the wrong time'!! But, never one to be called selfish....I shared it equally with my husband!!!! (he follows BTD too).
All this apart, I am fortunate and very rarely catch colds. |

As a rule I am not often sick with anything (until I utter those words out loud... knock wood). But i've only been BTD since September, so who knows? In fact my last 'bout with the flu was in 1993. I remember it was bad. My last head cold was 2004, and I had some stomach virus in '05 that knocked me on my butt for three whole days. I guess I got lucky! |

I voted 0-1 less or equal. I may have gotten short colds--but nothing too lengthy or serious.
I had a somewhat terrible flu just prior to beginning the BTD lifestyle more compliantly.

Dear PT, In business school they taught me to make questionnaires as simple as possible. Well, guess what, I was so anxious to get too much info in a condensed manner I broke the rule and made the question quite complex. It is not you vertically challenged it is me not following good advice. I designed the questions to give to replies: 1) The number of colds/flu people get per year and 2) Whether that number is less, equal, or more than before BTD. The only place we can not tell if the number is more than before is in the 0-1 category as I figured there would not be many people that when getting in average 0-1 colds per year would be getting more than preBTD. E.i. Individuals who pre BTD would get 0, and now on BTD they may get 1 per year or biannually etc. |

I have my nonBTD husband right by me watching TV. I am tempted to show him the graph. Woh! Not only most are voting 0-1 cold/flu per year (which is outstanding) but, they are less or equal to before BTD. I realize a serious illness is important but colds/flu are such a nuisance and the powerfull western world does not seem to find a solution and here we are... at the end of the poll, if results continue like this, I shall frame the graph. BTD rocks! |

I get sick less often and when I do it seems to be less severe and I get well quicker. It seems to be a win-win-win for me. |

My question would also be what number of people are actually having colds now vs just our bodies detoxing from much of the junk. I know that's what I'm going through now - and I'm learning to tell the difference between detoxing and an actual cold. Or also the difference between an avoid reaction and a cold as well. |

Good point. Last year while on holidays I went 100% complient from my typical yoyo. Towards the end of the first week I got what looked like a cold but it was not as strong as I always got them. I do not know if it was a cold or detox. I would say it was detox as I did not give it to my husband eventhough I was quite close to him. |

This brings up an important question for me. If one takes "something" to hide the symptoms, does it make the cold/flu less contagious? I can understand contact with the hands is less contagious because one does not fiddle as much with the nose but the breath? The virus is till in ones body eventhough the symptoms are hidden. So... what's the answer? |

I tend to believe in the saying: Treat a cold and it will last seven days, leave it alone and it will last one week. Having said that I'm all for sucking something to ease a throat or a linctus to soothe a cough. |

When we feel something coming on now, we get on the elderberry. I also have an elderberry/zinc lozenge I use. What we take isn't medicine, but natural stuff, so IMHO, I don't so much see it as covering up the sickness, but treating it. |

I waffled between putting 0-1 and 2-3. I know I’ve been infected with the cold/flu but it doesn’t bother me or slow me down. The germs are there, the important thing is how our body reacts once they get into our system. I’m a non-secretor, so they get in but don’t stay in. I’m a smoker, so I suppose that lowers my resistance. But when I quit smoking for 3 ½ months early this year, I did not notice any difference in cold/flu frequency. I did notice a difference in allergic reactions. The BTD helps with both.
At the 1st sign of a cold I take Air Born, Bee pollen, zinc up the nose & in the mouth, and peroxide in the ears.
I travel lots for business; I can’t afford to have a cold. The only sick hours I took off this past year were for dentist appointments. Being a non-secretor, I have poor teeth. |

I have very good news! After a life time of 7 day extremely messy colds for the first time I have had a 3 day cold! Yes! And it was not so messy. I believe I have found the treatment (not only the cover up). Hopefully it works for future colds. As soon as I got home from visiting my mother and sister (both with the cold virus) I started taking the following: *Proberry caps (NAP´s) 10-16/day. *Ara Plus (NAP´s) 3/day *Collinsonia (NAP´s) 3/day *Respiratone (NAP´s) 3/day * Deflect (NAP´s) 4/day * Vitamin C with Rose Hips (Solgar) 500mg/day Once I experienced the; Rats! I got it, I started taking as “cover up” 3 farmaceutical pills/day containing Paracetamol (500mg) Fenilefrina (8,2 mg) Clofenamina (3 mg) and a whole bunch of other small stuff like corn starch. I do not know if these ingredients need translation. In any case, I would say they are not very BTD or healthy but they are pain relievers, they lower fever, and are antihistamines. My colds are soooo messy no matter how strong my initial intent on not taking garbage I always end up doing so even though they hardly ever covered up the symptoms. This time thou, my symptoms were hardly noticeable. Once I had the cold I also took: L-Glutamine 10gms/day in 3 doses Tranquility Base (NAP´s) to sleep better. Every morning I woke up so refreshed. I just hope it is NAP´s products that have made the difference and not the virus. I believe it is the effect of NAP´s products as both my mother and sister (who gave it to me) had a longer and more symptomatic cold. Thank you NAP. I finally found some cold treatment. If only you knew how important it is for me… And now, based on the results from the poll, I am even more motivated for BTD compliance. Even though this treatment works I rather avoid the whole experience. I look forward to seeing the results produced by more voters or new treatments. |

Reading the cough section on Dr. D's Enciclopedia he mentions that green or yellow mocus may be a hint of more serious bacteria. I wonder if that is the clue for us (individuals in constant detox ) If our mocus is yellow or green it is a cold. If it is transparent, it is detox. Am I on the right track? |

Cr*p. I read the poll wrong and thus voted wrong (what can I say, I'm a Florida voter! I'm challenged!). I thought it said zero to one per year, so I voted that. Ooops, it was saying zero to one less or equal than before. WRONG! I usually don't get any colds per year now. At most, I'll get one. But usually it is on a biannual cycle at most now. I think at the moment I'm going on three years without one..... (sorry I voted wrong and scr*wed up the poll...us Floridians should be banned from voting in anything...we still have one contested election down here, but that is more a Diebold voting machine and/or massive-n-vast conspiracy thing versus voter error *lol*)
The poll says: "0-1; (=semi-colon) less or equal than before". (a) if you get zero, it can't be MORE than before. (b) if you get 1, it CAN be more than before. The poll doesn't cover the possibility that you get 1 and it's more than before. If you PT get 1 and it's more than before, then the actual participating would be wrong. I suppose that's what you were telling. |

Susana, A doctor once told me that mucus that has been sitting in the lungs can be green or yellow without any bacterial infection if it has been there for some time. He didn't elaborate on how long, but it is an indication that mucus can be colored and still just be from detox... That may be why Dr. D said that it "may" be a hint of bacterial infection... |

I do get the flu about the same as before the BTD... which is still infrequently. But I have noticed a biiig change in how many colds I get per year. I used to have several colds each year, which almost always turned into sinus infections. But through the BTD and using a neti pot, I get a cold maybe once per year. And usually of shorter duration and intensity, like many others have noted. Plus... I am no longer hip deep in mucous when my children are sick. Thank goodness they are older and can wipe their own noses now!! For me, it is stress that seems to trigger a cold, and I can feel it begin in my body before a cold begins. If I catch it in time and de-stress I can usually ward it off with rest/sleep/relaxation... and saying no to others demands on my time... a big one. And the NAP Proberry syrup is the best!! Awesome stuff!!! You must try it if you haven't yet. |

Interesting! thanks. Mhameline I wonder if there is anything that can indicate the diference between a cold or detox. More than anything, for the treatment. A good diagnosis makes all the diference. |

In five years on the BTD I have gotten maybe 3 colds and that was when I was actually eating lots of avoids so I really wasn't on the BTD then. Numerous other times I've had the beginning symptoms of a cold and immediately followed the BTD pretty rigorously along with eating lots of garlic and onions (hey I'd rather not have a cold) and then ended up never getting a cold. Haven't had the flu in probably 15 years. |

I get less sinus infections & colds, now, and when I do feel something's coming on, it's usually because I've been cheatin' my little brains out, and getting back on the BTD seems to straighten me out quickly. I shake off cold-ish sorts of things quicker and easier now because I know what not to eat. Just as simple as that. |
