Kia Ora to you all from Australia. My wife and I are new comers to the BTD way of life - and after only a couple of weeks trying to embrase the whole lifestyle we are feeling many benefits. I have something to ask you/someone who may be able to help. My wife is A type. She has had a chronic cough most of her latter years and constantly has a phlem build-up problem. She has coughing spasams periodically which are a constant annoyance to her. Doctors have never been able to diagnos the problem saying it could be a form of asthma etc. She is so desparately wanting to get over this health issue and hopes that embrassing the BTD will find an improvement in her health. Is there anything she should be/or not be doing that may help her. I appreciate your taking the time to read this thread and would welcome any comments please. Regards. Royce. |

Hi Royce, Welcome to the forums. You've come to the right place to finally turn your (and your wife's) health around. Here's what I would recommend for your wife. Have her take the Secretor Test And, get the Health Series Allergies BookAnd here's why. She's dealing with a life long health issue that no one has dx'd and helped her with. The Type A's are the only types where, the non-secretor diet is quite different from the secretor diet. And, Type A is the only blood type with sub-types. She could be an A1 or an A2. Once she finds out her secretor status, she can follow the recommendations in the Allergies book to really fine tune her diet for optimum healing and results. Until you get these items, here are the top allergy fighting foods, and the top foods to avoid for Type A. Top 10 Allergy fighting Super Foods 1. Soy-based foods 2. Fichly oiled cold-water fish (salmon, sardines) 3. Flax (linseed) oil 4. Olive oil 5. Broccoli 6. Onion 7. Berries (blueberry, cherry, elderberry, cranberry) 8. Garlic 9. Lemon 10 Green Tea Until you get your Allergy Book, I'd try to get one of these foods into your wife (or two of them) at every meal. Top foods to AVOID for Type A: Red Meat Cow's milk-based dairy foods Corn, cottonseed, peanut oil Kidney, navy beans Wheat White potatoes Bell peppers Eggplant Tomato and tomato products Oranges Food Additives Processed Sugar Hope this helps! Keep asking questions. We are all here to help others succeed in this new way of living and eating. p.s. Have her start he day off with a glass of lemon water, first thing in the morning. This helps to clear mucus in Type A's. |

Hi Picassoboyz, my brother is in a similar situation to your wife; he has had always nasty cough and cat and parietaria induced asthma. Think that she could be gluten intolerant and may be casein too. Helas he doesn't want to hear it, also if as a infant he was diagnosed as celiac ! Best wishes for health and well being Maria Giovanna |

Hello Picassoboyz, KK's recommendations are the tops! If you want the additional help of some very safe herbs, try Cordyceps and Americal Ginseng. Both are lung tonics, both gentle, and they approach lung health differerently. Cordyceps is strengthening to the immune system and gives the body the capacity to uphold the health of the lungs. American Ginseng is cooling (as opposed to Chinese or Korean Ginseng, which is warm or hot), and is moistening to the lungs. It can make the lungs feel much more comfortable. Both of these can be found at Dragonherbs. CLICKAlso a more "western" herb which is a good expectorant, is Yerba Sante. It is an extract from a resinous plant. Any of these would give her a bit of support while she is following the BTD. |

...my mom had the same thing....put her on a quercitan rich A compliant diet
use garlic and onions liberally meaning everyday...eat cold water fish like trout, cod , salmon, macheral and sardines
take quercitan tablets 400mg 20 minutes before meals with some bromelain 500mg...helps to absorb the quercitan faster.....flaxseed oil...tablespoon eeryday....omit dairy as much as possible..contributes to mucus formation.
if she has an attack....pick up some Oil of Oregano from a health food store and have her sniff from the bottle during attack or have her rub a couple of drops(very powerful stuff so don't use too much) on her chest...it will open up the passage ways
green tea also helps
lastly...strict adherance to A diet

Avoiding milk and dairy products as well as avoid oils would be important. Dr. D'Adamo has mentioned that it takes some A's one year to get relief from the excess mucous. The excess mucous is part of the A's protective response. |

I really appreciate all your help/concern/advise. I will get onto all the recommendations as soon as possible. One thing I didn't mention was that my wife gets the flu/colds constantly. She gets over one then on comes another - and it seems like - all the time. Adhearing to the above suggestions will help her with that too - we hope. Thanks folks, I really appreciate your time and concerns. Cheers. Royce. now to fix my signature!!! |

picassoboyz, I'd like to suggest some Proberry Caps or Syrup also. http://www.dadamo.com/napharm/BTstore/BTSstore.pl?user_action=detail&catalogno=NP014not seeing the liquid, but I know they have it. NAP's is much more preferrable, IMHO, to all the others I've ever seen. It has no HFCS (high fructose corn syrup) in it. Just good stuff. A little zinc might not hurt her either. IF it's ok to supplement that for her blood type. Also some good Vit C, for her blood type. P.S. wanted to add - what a good husband you are. |

I'd trade blood types w/ the DH if I could. I don't crave meat like he does, so we're kinda switched over here. As we have no choice, we'll just have to do the best we can w/ what we were given. |

Hey picasoboyz, good luck with your problem and the BTD solutions but what is this "Kia Ora" from "Australia"???? Are you confused about where you come from or are you a Kiwi who is living among the Okkkers? Hairemai, Hone. |

picassoboyz do remember that the O diet is more like having lots of vegetables and a small garnish of meat on the side. Check and make sure of the serving sizes and frequencies recommended and you will find that it really isnt as much meat as you might think. I keep discussing this with my mom who is an O secretor on the diet. Also this might help the pocket book in what might be one of the more expensive of the diets. Always try to focus on getting lots of veg and then enjoy your small 4-6 oz serving of meat, it doesnt have to be at every meal either most O's seem to do fine with there red meat for breakfast and then other protein sources for lunch and dinner. Lots of luck with the wife and try the lemon and water in the morning for her. |

some O's tend to need more meat than others. me for one. so the amount of red meat you'll need picassoboyz, will be an individual thing. maybe starting w/ the alotted guideline amounts and see how you feel. adjust from there. when I was 100% compliant and ate LOTS of meat (maybe even more than recommended as I think about it), all was VERY well. Food in, food out, every meal, just like clock work. Doctors say red meat is bad for you! Hogwash if you're an O and being compliant. Bring on that filet!!! |

That is true italybound so I guess the best advice is let your body be your guide. I guess you could try out various amounts of meat and see how well you do and go from there. |

Thanks for all the help and advise. Eating the meat bit is going much better - got myself a set of kitchen scales so weigh it all now! Doesnt seem quite so much after all. Just wish we lived nearer to a decent health food shop so we could get access to all the things mentioned in the BTD books! Living in the "outback" has its disadvantages at times!! - Does anyone know where kangaroo meat and crocodile meat fits into the diet plan? Got alot of that out bush here. Cheers everyone - Royce. |

it would be considered a neutral until tested. however, please be sure to listen to your body if you eat it. my O brother has alligator once a year and seems to do okay on that. tho that is not kang or croc. |

Hi there picassoboyz,
You have received wonderful advice, and I usually don't volunteer, but....I have been researching and taking NAC for some time now for antiox benefits since having had chemotherapy some time ago. One of the things I read about was the benefits for people with lung and mucous difficulties. So when an older friend of my husbands was suffering with emphasema (spelling) I suggested he try it. Lo and behold, he really has improved. He is off the oxygen and prednisone. He takes one 600 mg. tab in the am and one in the evening. I think he takes a glutamine tab with the am one, too. He thinks it is nothing short of miraculous. Do a search and read up on it, they are using it for that among other things. I would have her try it for a few weeks and see if it helps.
Good luck! |
