the candida was more of a symptom of an even deeper problem

I totally agree. If you have chronic candida stop focusing on treating the candida, but stay on an appropriate anti-candida form of the BTD, and start looking for what is causing the candida.

Quoted from KimonoKat
Candida becomes a problem when it gets out of balance with the good bacteria in your colon.  When the percentage of candida organizms out number the good bacteria.  According to Encyclopedia of Natural Medicine (by Murray & Pizzorno, ND's),

Leaky gut is a problem for a lot of individuals with health issues, and I feel addressing the gut and digestion is key to getting one's candida back in balance.  If that means getting the gall bladder cleaned out for some individuals, then that might be a path for some. (FWIW, another quote from the book: "In many cases, an important step in treating chronic candidiasis is improving digestive secretions.") For other individuals it might be another path, like concentrating on the fungal support protocols.  In other individuals, it might be the path of supporting and improving the immune system.  For others, it might be a combination of methods.

For someone suffering from candida, it can feel like they are in a vicious cycle.  If you've never had to deal with it, be grateful.

Good information in that post KK, including the quote that didn't come through when I quoted.

I will just add that I would also consider the possibility of toxins being part of the problem. The toxins can suppress the immune function. The BTD, colon cleansing, liver flushes can all help with some toxin issues. Other more serious issues like mercury, which will promote and bind to candida, will require other types of treatments.

Repeating, If you have chronic candida stop focusing on just treating the candida, but stay on an appropriate anti-candida form of the BTD, and start looking for what is causing the candida.

Which book/books would give one the most details/specifics about what is the best/ appropriate anti candida form of the BTD?  I have ER. LR. and the encyclopedia.

I think that the type O nonnie diet is already a pretty good anti-candida diet, but if you are still having trouble then try cutting back even more on the fruit, starches, and any sweetener you might be using.
