I had a total hysterctomy (no ovaries left) about 3 years ago. Have been on the Climara patch since 2 mths after the surgery. Trying to get my levels evened out here w/ the progesterone. Was talking to my chiro today and he says I'm postmenopausal because I don't have periods anymore. I thought I'd be postmenopausal when I didn't have the hot flashes, night sweats, crying jags, etc anymore. Where am I in all this? I know I need to do a saliva panel (working on that) to see WHERE all my hormones are and then supplement from there. Just confused about where I am now in this whole big cycle. And should I be following the menopause book? IF I'm post, then I'd think not.  thanks.

I'm kinda fuzzy on the specifics myself.  But from my limited understanding, you can have the symptoms of menopause that you described even after your periods have completely stopped.

I had a similar question lately...I asked a knowledgeable friend about the bioidentical hormones she has been taking, as I have some of the same symptoms you mentioned....and she said "oh, I took them for years but not anymore." And she's younger than me by several years....(I had a hyst. also, making it hard to know). In other words her point to me was that I am post meno....welllll .....maybe. Curious to follow this thread....

You are postmenopausal because you no longer have periods, AND you no longer have the equipment to have periods.    Menopausal women can still have those symptoms you mentioned, sometimes for many years.  I think the menopause book is very appropriate for a woman who is "menopausal", as opposed to "pre-menopausal".

There are some herbal supports that may help if those are your symptoms.  Maybe just Fembalance from NAP would be enough to help.

I use Black Cohosh for bone strengthening and preventing hot flashes.
Vitex/Chastetree for evening out mood swings.
Freshly ground flax for also preventing hot flashes
Xaoi yao Wan (Plum Flower brand) for eliminating hormonal emotional storms and relieving that inner feeling of emotional "pressure".

You're welcome, Jayne-O.

I should add that the Menopause book is ALSO appropriate for pre-menopause (perimenopausal women).

Hi there dear Italybound!

No, actually I didn't say anything like you not needing to follow the menopause book as you're post menopausal!

However . . .   . . . Having the diabetic book IS enough to follow.  Do you need permission to not follow two Health library books??

ok, consider yourself free from any burden of more complicated compilance rule and regulations!

The actual food lists are very similiar among all the health library series.  I don't think you should give yourself anything else to worry about.  Life itself gives you enough of that.  If you want or need some extra support, check out the herbal and supplement suggestions for the menopausal protocol.  Later, down the road, if you WANT to get into it more in depth, then you know the book exists and you can browse through it at your leisure!

p.s.  Just so there is no misunderstanding, I am not intending to give a blanket answer to all women in general who are considering following the Menopause book.  This answer is specifically for Italy because I am aware of how many different balls she is juggling with her wellness program.

Hey, I was just about to come back and give you one of   too, now you're gonna get                 {{{{ hugs}}}} to you too.
Just gettin' ready to make me a big fat hankeyburger (as Jamie used to call them as a small child). Been eating WAY too much chicken and turkey trying to help the DH stay on board. WOW, how nice is it to say that - the DH is on board. Planted 5 more seeds today while out doing errands.                  Hate to say this because how ironic and   was this - 4 of those while I was in a coffee shop.      Hey, if my having one coffee brings 4 more people on board, I'm happy to make the sacrifice.

Hey!!! my little smiley face w/ the tongue sticking out stopped working. that's what these    are in my post. Dang! Ruins the whole affect!

Ok, that's a great idea!!  Glad you came up with that one.

And it doesn't mean getting out of the car and walking into the coffee shop!!

I've heard that grandparenting is life's dessert, Pat. I'm glad that is true for you.

... and should help with maintaining compliance too.
