I am AB+ blood type and have been diagnosed with cirrhosis of the liver, 80% of my liver damage is irriversable as it is small shrivelled and fibrous, it was discovered in Feb 2006  since then I have changed my diet to not eat anything that puts stress on my liver and am taking St Marys thistle and I have lost 19kg (41lbs) I really want to retain the 20% of my liver so I dont have to have a liver transplant, can anyone tell me what else I can be doing to help myself please. I am feeling really good except I seem to pick up a lot of viral infections that are going around. Would taking colloidal silver twice a day help this do you think? Cheers, Chris from New Zealand

can you tell us how this came about?
did you have hepatitis?
is this genetic?

you might want to check the liver support protocols, and read through the protocol index to chose more targeted info:
http://www.dadamo.com/protocols/19.html
http://www.dadamo.com/protocols/index.htm

also try the determinator:
http://www.dadamo.com/ingrediator/determinator.htm

Even though you might not buy the NAP products, you can get an idea of what you need by looking at the ingredients of the products recommended.
Determinator can really help you prioritize supplements, ...

N-acetyl-cysteine is something that my doctor recommends to enhance liver function, so that may be something to ask about.

yup mikthistle not that bad and perhaps think about aminoacidsintake, but please slow down with the amounts because of the wellknown causa, and perhaps have an eye onto the B-vitaminoid named Alpha-lipoicacid....this is a goody for liver and brain

YES, follow the liver support protocols.  They're very good!
Also, Schizandra is a great herb for liver healing.
Eat NO avoids!
Yes, on the beneficials!

Hi lapisblue, nice to meet you

Lots of good advice here! Definitely follow the liver protocols for AB, and make your compliance rate as high as possible. Both will help you heal. I would also add, be gentle with yourself and take one step at a time. As you go along, you'll make some mistakes; that's okay. Mistakes are excellent learning tools.

You've got a priceless resource with this website and message board--we are a friendly lot and always willing to help out, listen, and comment. Please ask all the questions you wish and make yourself at home.

Welcome to the board! I look forward to your posts.

lapisblue, wishing you a very warm welcome to the forum and BTD!!
You might find this of interest. My brother was taking this internally and noticed that a cancer spot on his ear disappeared. When he stopped taking it, the psot returned. I have used it somewhat myself but not for long periods of time. I am actually glad you brought up the colloidal silver, it made me think about this (tho this is ionic silver and fulvic acid)and I really need it right now. Feeling kinda poopy.
   http://www.heallix.com/

They have changed the format of their website. They used to have a page that told the things for which you could use it and I'm sure it's still there, somewhere. ***
Have a look around and maybe some others will comment about using ionic silver w/ your cirrhosis.
*** P.S. found it.............go all the way to the bottom of the page and click on testimonies. Looks like they've added a lot of good stuff to their info - all thru the site.
It also says to use distilled water. I talked to Leo, the owner, and he says it's not necessary anymore to use distilled water (formula change) but you should use filtered. BTW, you can call and talk to Leo any time or leave a message. I've talked to him at least a half dozen times myself. He's always been very helpful.

I just love to see a new AB on the board. Firstly I think it's awesome that you have so dramatically changed your life ( SOMETIMES IT TAKES A BIG WAKE-UP CALL DOESN'T IT I bet you will just feel great as you start to incorporate the AB diet into your life...remember the BIG no-no's ... NO BEEF, NO KIDNEY BEANS, NO WHOLE MILK, NO COFFEE (hey I'll admit this is a tough one for me) and for God's sake NO CHICKEN I take milk thistle, dandelion, and alpha lipoic acid in a combo capsule for liver health and I also take lots of B vitamins ( my sweet kids remind me if I've taken my "nasty "pills..cause I'm nasty without them)
Good luck to you and enjoy your new journey....

wow you are a friendly bunch, thanks heaps for all that advice I sure will get onto that. It is so nice to have the support, I find because I look okay people do not realise the severity of my problem so I just dont talk about it anymore but have to be so good and am feeling extra good now I am on the eatright4yourtype diet and I lost another kilo too which is a bonus. I am really looking forward to having a 2nd ultrasound next February to see if I have retained the 20% of my liver if I can do that I will be over the moon. It amazes me how my fellow work mates comment on whether I would have a drink of alcohol or eat something fatty when we have a work shout, I just say.....be good 100% v liver transplant....there is no need to even think about it and that shuts them up. Thanks heaps everyone I really do appreciate your input.

Isa, you are so right!

Hang in there lapis. You are doing the right thing for your body. It will reward you with better health; it just takes a while, especially when you've got a lot of healing to do. Many of us have been down that road and traveled far on it.

You might notice something funny with your mates at work--when you've been on the BTD for a while, you could get some serious questions in with all the teasing! Some people will decide that you're crazy and never understand what you're doing, but others will pay attention and start asking all sorts of things.

Any road, hope you are doing okay. Please keep us posted on your progress.

Lapis, I mentioned Schizandra earlier, up in post #5.  I was in a hurry then, but now that I'm slowing down a bit, I wanted to provide a link with a little information on Schizandra's effect on the liver.  There is a lot more out there, but this is what I have right now, because this is the company I order all my Chinese herbs from and they're a great bunch.  The owner of the company is the man who helped to found Eden organic foods company.  Click  HERE.  Dr. D has cautioned against using it if a person has cancer (It stimulates healthy cell growth, and therefore we wouldn't want to be stimulating cell growth in the case of malignancy), otherwise it is great stuff.
The liver has great potential for rebuilding, so keep believing the the health of your remaining good cells!

would mention ...have an eye also on colostrum (& aloe ferox )....this is not a supplement...but nutrition pure...but what form of nutrition = beastmilk without casein nor lactose...but all goodies in what you are in need of to rebuild up a good immunsystem; it has also growthfactors in, different globulines but no harm possible....the contraire is the case .....

Being far from an expert, I still want to add my 3 cents worth.  I don't see it mentioned here, but I remember reading advice from Dr. D. to drink a cup or two a day of dandelion tea.  Does anyone second that ?  Good luck to you.

dandelion has been used primarily as a tonic for the liver.

also present in the liver support protocol:
