I hope this is the right category for this thread...
This is my first fall/winter on BTD and I have come down with a cold that's been going around. A lot of the cold care stuff that I used to do (echinacea, goldenseal, OJ, etc.) are avoids for Type O. Also, I usually liked to drink soda and juice, which I think is too much sugar for O's even if it isn't the avoid kinds...
Can any Type O's who've been through a few winters of cold season let me know how you coddle your immune system BTD-style when you come down with a cold. I would be most grateful!

Someone told me to put a couple drops of oregano oil in a cup of hot water (as for tea) and drink every morning. I tried it for a cold and it seemed powerful. Also elderberry syrup. (KK already mentioned these.)
I would recommend making a soda with blueberry juice and elderberry concentrate in sparkling mineral water--not sweet at all, and good for you too.
Peppermint tea can be a nice change of pace when you're sick. I like it sweetened with some agave nectar--it's like drinking a peppermint drop that settles your stomach and helps open up your nasal passages too.
I have also found that making a nice beef vegetable soup works wonders. (Lamb is another great choice.) I like to use leftover pot roast and the au jus gravy. I cut the beef up in small pieces and add in bits of sweet potato, collards or kale, onion, garlic . . . the soup is gently simmered until the vegetables are cooked through (a slow cooker is excellent for making soup). This is a nourishing, easily digested and delicious soup that gets better as it ages, soothes sore throats and upset stomachs, and keeps you hydrated without having to drink a lot of water.

Yerba Santa is good for all blood types, both for sinus problems and for expectorant effect. It will make a cough more productive, thus clearing the lungs.
NAP has a wonderful formula, called Respiratone. I don't have time to create the link at this moment, but check at the NAP store at the top of this page.

2 nettle (great decongestant - good for coughs) - Eclectic Institute is a great brand 2 Eclectic Institute brand garlic 2 Olive leaf, standardized 2 Astragalus, standardized 2 Elderberry caps 2 Rose Hips 1 Natural Factors Multi acidophilus with FOS 2 Mullien IF I feel like I am congested in the ears
Mid-day:
The same MINUS the Olive Leaf and the acidophilus
Before Bed:
Same as AM w.o. the acidophilus
I keep this up for 2-4 days, depending on how bad I am feeling. After that, I stop the mid-day taking of the suppliments and I stop the Olive Leaf
After a week, I go to only taking these things in the AM. I do this until I feel 100% and then I stop all of it. I only take suppliments when I feel that they are needed, that way my body doesn't acclimate to them.
Homemade soup is always a good thing. If I have a sore throat, I gargle twice a day with hydrogen peroxide - works FAR better for me than salt water. I also have a colloidal silver throat spray that I will use if my throat hurts.
If I am congested and the pills don't clear it right up, I use a mild salt-water irrigation of the sinuses. This rarely happens to me, so I don't have to do it very often.
One of my ways of not coming down with some of the stuff I used to is stay away from wheat, corn, dairy and most other grains. Lately been cheating with chocolate, and feeling the vulnerability return to my sinuses & throat. My office is once again starting to sound like a TB ward, and it's so hard to keep myself from getting up on my chair and yelling Ditch the wheat and dairy, guys! Waiting to see if & what I may catch this season, tho I've felt tons better than I have in decades. Thanks Dr. D! Also, thanks, guys, for the cold recipes!

This seems really true! I just went on a vacation where I wasn't eating totally compliant and I feel like I weakened my immune system. As soon as I got home I caught the cold that was going around and felt awful.
Thanks to everyone for the suggestions. I will definitely stock up on the suppliments for cold season. I was a little short on cash to get all the suppliments this time, but I managed to get though with lots of fresh ginger & mint boiled into a tea with honey, brown rice miso soup with lots of sea vegetables and black cherry juice mixed with sparkling water as a substitute for my old favorite, Sprite. Plus lots and lots of sleep.
I will maintain that my trip was fun enough to justify eating off the BTD a little bit, but I am also really thankful to be home and back to beneficial meals all the time. Mmmmm mmm.
