Help required, my mouth gets "very" dry through the night. It gets so bad at times it wakes me up and once awake it moistens up a bit but I don't think it should be happening. I drink a lot of water through the day and think if I increased the amount it could be harmful like over flushing my body perhaps. We are very compliant BTD followers but we are not bloody ridiculous fanatics. When out or at friends for meals we enjoy the avoids put in front of us and return to compliance as soon as we get home. Just don't know why I get this dry mouth at night. Suggestions welcome. Cheers John. |

Are you breathing through your mouth at night? Are your sinuses congested at all? |

Are you adding sea salt to your water when you drink it? Debra |

I wake up with dry mouth too, but I am a mouth breather and I snore so I figure that must be the cause for me. I just keep water next to the bed. |

Yes, I do breath through my mouth too much, mainly because of past injury and corrective surgery to my nose and nasal passages. I used to suffer a lot with sinus and mucus problems but that has all improved remarkably with the BTD! I practice deep diaphragm breathing too, mainly through my nose, for best benefit. I usually add a pinch of NZ "Flaky Sea Salt" to my last glass of water before bed but that doesn't seem to make much difference to the dry mouth at night problem. Oh well I guess I have to just live with it, although the dryness is severe at times I thought there might have been a known reason for it. I have to say that generally I enjoy a really healthy life, thanks to BTD, it is the big difference. Thank you all for your help, it is really appreciated. Cheers John. |

I think a big reason for my wafefulness during the night is due to nasal stuffiness which wakes me every couple hours. So, I drink between 10-16 ounces of water during the night. Once my mouth is satisfied, I can usually get back to sleep. At least my snoring problem is gone. |

My mouth is also dry at night. I thought it was due to breathing through my mouth but, after 2 years on BTD, I now breathe through my nose. There is something else involved I'm sure.
The other time my mouth is really dry is after "bowel movements". I just don't understand this one at all.
On another discussion group, someone recommended to increase the amount of olive oil & potassium in the diet. |

I used to have dry mouth regularly. I'm sure I'm a mouth breather. Lately though it's gotten better. I also keep water bedside.
When I first read your post I started thinking back to what was going on during that time. What has helped me is "stream of consciousness" writing right before I go to bed and listening to calming music or sounds of the ocean, babbling brook, something like that. The writing is sort of like getting rid of the day's "trash" if something that I think is not bothering me actually is.
You may come up with other creative ideas for yourself.

Good thought Colleen!!! Can't believe I didn't think of that since my DH has it. DUH!!! Glad your brain is on - maybe you've happened upon the answer! Since S/A is dangerous, it's a good thing the thought has been brought up. |
