My DH is seeing his dr in 2 days. I've been meaning to compile a list of things for them to check and dang if this didn't sneak up on me. I would like to know if you have any other ideas other than what I'm listing.

DH is blood type A, 61 yrs old, takes no meds but does drink 2-5 beers a day, works like a horse, has hypoglycemia. Other than that he seems to be in pretty good health. Oh except that he has that problem when he eats too fast of it seeming that his food is backing up or something. It causes pressure in his chest, coughing, spitting. He has figured out that when it happens, if he just goes in and throws up, it relieves it right away.


Thinking maybe he needs testing for hiatal hernia or the diaphram may not be working correctly.

I'd like to see him have these tests:

I realize some of these may be included in a complete work up of something else. Anything else you can think of?

I would also ask for a cholesterol test & possibly even come back for a blood sugar anaylsis if you are concerned about is hypoglycemia.

Thanks Sue, I've added it to the list and also glucose. We already know he's hypoglycemic and he should be checked again. Thanks.  Boy, my original post is going to have a ton of modifications.

do not know if serum(blood) levels for any mineral is accurate enough to cause concern ... except perhaps iron and potassium.  Blood studies yield only acute levels of most minerals ... you may want a good hair analysis instead for chronic states ... most MD's would frown on this except for heavy metal toxicity.

The blood tests or the hair analysis. If it's the blood tests, my MD will run pretty much whatever we want as long as ins covers it.

Re the possibility of hiatal hernia/diaphram.... he could try eating smaller amounts and of course,
eating more slowly - sorry if these are too obvious!!

Hi Janet  ,  he does eat slower now. Only once in a while does this happen since he realized the problem. I at first thought it was an allergic reaction to something he was eating as it happened in the spring and then not again until fall, both of which are seasons that he eats turnips. It hasn't happened WHILE eating turnips tho. Back to square one and getting some tests I guess.  Thanks.
