Hi, I went out and got a digital basal thermometer as recommended by someone (sorry don't recall) from my mercury thermometer thread. I have been researching on the web on doing the armpit test. For the digital basal therm. it is recommended that you use it under your tongue, not in your armpit. My question is what would give me more accurate results for the thyroid test. Using a glass thermometer in the armpit or the dig. basal thermometer under the tongue?. Thanks Again!!!! Mickey |

I've always been told for basal temp measuring (for throid issues) to take a tnermometer and measure under the armpit, first thing in the morning, without moving from bed. As you're lying there. And, to test alternate arms over several days to get an average reading.
I've tested with a digital thermometer and a mercury. Measurements were within a point of each other.

Glass, if you already have it... if your digital is older, you might want to upgrade. I love my non-mercury metal & glass thermometer. I don't have kids though. |
