ok.. I KNOW why I was stressed out.. that's not the question.. too much mental, physical and sun exposure in a big tournament weekend... but now I have this giant fever blister under my nose.. I have had them before but not in years...
WHAT can I do to speed the recovery period? It is stinging like crazy.. I have some Valtrex, but I'd rather not take it if something else will help... any suggestions?? |

If you already have a large, full-blown fever blister, the anti-viral works fastest.
If it is just threatening to come on, you can sometimes intercept it by taking Lysine capsules. You could still do this and it will probably shorten the time. Also if you get a good natural Lysine salve from the natural foods store, and open a bunch of licorice capsules into the salve; mix well and rub generously to the spot. Keep it on all day and night for a few days. Dr. D. has said that licorice, used consistently on a herpes spot will eventually stop it from erupting there. |

I recently posted about cold sores. The topical licorice definately works! Its faster than anything on the market. I use the kind from http://www.beckernatural.com. I think its called licrogel. Just search for it there. Its really cheap too. Good luck! |

sorry to say this, but if you pop TWO valtrex and only do this ONE day, that fever blister will be gone in a flash. This is what my doc recommended that I do if I feel any sort of herpes trying to start. Take 2 at once for one day. It is AMAZING how well it works.
Do you have any zovirax cream? I also would hit it with the cream. That combo can make a fever blister/ cold sore/ whatever disappear in a day or less.
To ME, the valtrex is one of those miracle drugs. I don't use it very often, but when I DO it works like magic. |

This is so true, EquiPro. Do you have any idea what the difference is between Valtrex and Acyclovir? And, does Zovirax need a prescription? |

valtrex = Acyclovir.
Yes, the Zovirax (also Acyclovir) needs a perscription. And it's expensive. But it's one of those amazing things that works for me EVERY SINGLE TIME I have fever blister, cold sore, herpes, whatever. Also a tiny bit goes a long way.
I get mine in Mexico when I go there - very cheap.
I have found that sometimes perscription drugs ARE the way to go, especially if you don't have to use them too often. The few here that I have mentioned are like magic with me. |

Actually, Valtrex is slightly different than Zovirax. It is is Valacyclovir, not Acyclovir. It is slightly more potent than Zovirax. You need a prescription for both. There is another topical cream called "Denavir" that very few people know about. It is, by far, the best prescription medicine (topical) I have found for cold sores. It is Pencyclovir. |

Well, thank you all SO much for the great advice.... I'm sorry in replying so late... here's what is happening:
I have a new laptop, but for some reason I am not seeing new threads.. in fact, I never saw my own thread posted, which is why I posted twice... the only reply I have ever seen was the nice one from Lola about the lavendar oil, which I have...
so, once again, I looked on my laptop and never saw my thread.. never saw a reply.. never saw that the post was even posted.. so
now I've moved to a different computer.. so strange..and here are all your WONDERFUL suggestions.. I was beginning to think I was the only person alive who ever got these! I know that's not true... but.. I was getting paranoid.. lol... I am taking the Valtrex.. I wish I had taken two the first day... this started Sunday night.. so.. I'm on Wednesday here.. taking one in the morning, one in the evening... shoulda woulda coulda..... next time ( I hope there won't be a next time) I'll take two first thing...
I am going to look into the licorice stuff...
Thanks, Victoria, EquiPro, connect, nick and lola... for your help... as always.. it's so appreciated!!
I think my body was just stressed.. I was drinking some esspresso, eating some protein bars and drinking some red bull during this tennis tournament just for pep and energy..well.. guess what.. I think it might have given me energy, but taxed my body... next time I'm going to stick to my regular diet...
I'm having some newfound will power here.. I don't really want coffee now.. I'm drinking green tea.. sans cream.. but with some sugar... it's still a crutch... my knees are telling me to back off from the coffee... I know this.. but coffee always lures me... but right now I feel strong...
thanks again |

Thanks, connect14! Good to know.
I think that Valtrex is a miracle drug. Really. I'm astounded that, if I happen to feel a cold sore or herpes coming on (just that little itchy-burny feeling) and I pop 2 Valtrex, the whole thing is over. Gone. Finished.
AND since moving to the Valtrex, this only happens about once a year vs. a couple of times per year. |
