Hey all, Had some prenatal tests done at my 29 week visit. My glucose level is fine....wheewww....No gestiational diabetes BUT, the doc said I am iron deficeint. All the signs were there I can't believe I missed them....Anyway, being an A.....aren't I supposed to avoid the red meats? Perhaps my lil one is an O? Her dad is an A like me....Anyway, any help is greatly appreaciated. I will refer to my book Eat right for baby but, I am just a little confused on what to eat.....I was a vegitarian for years....now I eat a litttle chicken & turkey....Is meat & OJ the answer???? Also, I should take my iron supplement with vitamin C juice of some kind? Thanks, Bsue |

concentrate on eating right for your type..... follow the frequency guidelines carefully.... your body will adjust gradually. eating avoids will not solve a thing. |

It's pretty common to become anemic during pregnancy, because your blood volume increases quite a bit.
I also had to supplement iron during pregnancy. Flora is great, especially for As, and includes some ingredients to help boost absorption. No need to use OJ (an avoid), there are other juices high in vitamin C, rose hip tea, or grapefruit juice (as long as you're not on any prescriptions it could interact with - like some used to prevent early labor), would be good. Cooking with cast iron is also good. |

I was going to quote one of the above, and then another, and then another... Wow. These are all excellent suggestions. Don't lose sleep over this; it's all too common. Just want to warn you, though, about the possible complication of Iron Rx from the doctor: Constipation. Do what you can, fruit-and-vegetable-wise, to counter it, if you're taking it... (Yay! Another baby!) |
