Back in the 70s and 80s I used use TVP fairly extensively.

I used it in most any dish that other people would use hamburger for.

I now prefer to use cultured soy products rather than chemically manufactured soy products.

I also no longer have a source for the textured soy products I preferred.

it is nothing but dehydrated soy bean mash

do the same with any of your allowed legumes

soak overnight, drain, cook, process, dehydrate in trays

I used to use it when I was vegetarian but really didn´t do much good for me.

It's soy based, so TVP is an "avoid" for Bs and Nomads. It's also very likely to be made with GMO soy, which is unhealthy for everybody (even those for whom soy products are beneficial.) It's also highly processed and much harder to digest than naturally fermented soy products such as tofu or miso.

I used to use the stuff before I knew better, back in the days when I thought low-meat diets were healthier than high-meat diets for everybody. It's tasty, and it's very convenient for a kosher cook, to have a "meat" product that's actually pareve (neutral) and can be served with dairy products. I used to use it in tacos with refried beans and shredded cheese.

I think it is all GMO-- don't use it.

better to come along with MAP.... no soy products for me....

I use it in cooking. I can't use the burger crumbles you buy frozen because they all contain wheat.
I don't use it daily but in soups, stoups and things like that.

Actually, most textured soy products that I see are not GMO.

Certainly it available if you look.

Also Organic textured Soy Products.

Most of the textured soy products that are not GMO are made be one company Archer Daniels Midland(ADM). Even ADM offers some soy products that are not GMO at a price premium.

Being non GMO off course does not take care of the additives and colorings added to most textured soy products.

That company is not in the US. I refuse to order TVP from the UK.   Like I said I don't use it often. Once in a while if I'm making chili or something

thanks. I don't think it's worth it. I have to pay shipping to buy TVP that I don't use often?  nah.
Plus it's hard now that I have to be careful with having things shipped to me because I already had something stolen at my apartment.

It is normal that someone would think you were asking for yourself unless you state otherwise. That is the reason the blood-type avatars were created, so one could simply refer to that when answering a question without blood type information.

It is equally likely on this forum, Lloyd, that a person is "asking for" someone else as for oneself. Heck, people even respond to polls on behalf of family members.
It doesn't bother me at all.
