Tzatziki Sauce
1 cucumber, deseeded and peeled and slice in half lengthwise
1 cup plain greek yogurt
juice of one lemon
garlic, 2 cloves finely minced
olive oil, 2 T
fresh dill, 2 tsp finely minced
salt and black pepper to taste(cayene maybe?)
Grate the cucumber and squeeze as much water out of it as possible. Combine with all other ingredients. |

Tzatziki Sauce
Not happy that SWAMI listed cucumbers and yoghurt as being just about one degree shy of the 'spawn of satan' category for me, mostly because tzatziki sauce is one of my absolute favorite things to have with pita gyro "me ola."  So, has anyone had success with, or even tried, making a cucumber-less and yoghurt-less tzatziki sauce? |

I miss moussaka too. Esp. the bechamel sauce part. Yeah you would think that an animal that yields wool in addition to meat milk and leather would be cheaper than cow - but they keep blaming the pasturing needs of sheep for its higher prices! Ridiculous that people would say that over in Colorado, and ridiculous that we have to import australian lamb, and that both sources of lamb are the SAME PRICE..... |

It is far more challenging to raise sheep than it is to raise cattle. Sheep have to be sheared by hand and then the wool has to be processed. You don't usually raise a sheep for meat, milk, and wool. Usually there are different breeds for different products.

In warm weather country like I live in they are just raised for meat. The fleece is usually of such a low quality and weight that It's not worth selling. I did milk a sheep once. We were buying some Corridale ewes from a Polish lady. One of the sheep had lost it's lamb and she wanted to save the colostrum for any orphan lambs It is very difficult as the "milk taps" are so short.. She also gave us a discount when we agreed to dip her angora goats for bugs. We never did get the billy all the way under we just had to pour buckets over his head. |

I initially thought this would be a really good idea ( i.e., thin it with some fresh lemon juice to obtain a more Greek yoghurt-y consistency). Especially since I recalled that quark was a neutral for me on ER4YT. However, I double-checked my SWAMI list and saw that quark has moved to complete avoid. (Some of the dairy avoids are really interesting to me as I'm not at all lactose intolerant.) Thanks for an alternative suggestion, though. I may just have to resign myself to living a tzatziki-free existence. Oops, I meant embrace, not resign.  |

Okay, since we're on the subject of tzatziki sauce and Greek food in general, here's the epitome of an antipodal G1 O-negative meal: Sitting in Omonia Square (Athens GR) outside this total dive of a taverna eating pitogyros consisting of wheat-based pita, unidentifiable meat (probably pork) buried under tomatoes, onions, fried potatoes and absolutely dripping with tzatziki, plus chips (french fries) with mayonnaise dipping sauce and a massive, ice-cold bottle of Heineken lager. Could it get any worse?!?  ... but, Lord love a duck, it tasted amazing at the time.  |

Feta is a black dot for Nomads but all the other ingredients look good. I'm making some right now, even though I have no idea what "Montreal Steak Seasoning" is, I'm guessing I don't need it. Oh, just found it: COARSE SALT, SPICES (INCLUDING BLACK PEPPER, AND RED PEPPER), GARLIC, SUNFLOWER OIL, NATURAL FLAVOR, AND EXTRACTIVES OF PAPRIKA. Guess I don't want it, black pepper = avoid, and I just love it when the list includes "natural flavor" as if there are "unnatural flavors" to be found somewhere  I will add some paprika and garlic (superfoods). I was reading about you "avoid memory foods" Conor and Lloyd, they don't really sound very good to me, and I'm guessing that if you ate them now they wouldn't taste good to you. I remember loving french fries with ketchup but I don't miss them and wouldn't even want them now. |

Wow, too funny, sounds like we had the same Taco Bell 'addiction' at one time. Remember when they still included black olives in the burritos and enchiritos? And, "enchirito," seriously, what marketing genius came up with that portmanteau? Can't tell you how many times I was disdainfully chastised by the 2:00 a.m. drive-through monitor for saying enchilada instead of enchirito. So was it just Mtn Dew, or Mtn Dew MDX (I mean, come on, Mtn Dew with even more caffeine!)? Recall quite a few all-night cram sessions in college, as well as too many to count 24- to 48-hour straight coding sessions after, that were all catered by Mtn Dew. Oh, the abuse! Every once in a great while, I'll get an involuntary twitch in my arm when I walk past a can of Mtn Dew Throwback at the store, but I just keep walking ... P.S. And who really ever knew just what exactly was in the frankenfood known as "red sauce," or even wanted to know??? |

When I was in school the craming food was coffee with No Doz seasoning. I saw a girl spaz out during a college chemistry final from 2 much nodoz. A few of the less savory character liked "electric koolaid" or koolaid spiked with acid.
I hate to admit this but, in college, we thought it was great fun on weekend nights to take a couple of maximum strength NoDoz (Vivarin worked in a pinch, but NoDoz had the wonderful minty flavor  ) and swallow them down by shotgunning a PBR. Woo-hoo, just what the world needs more of: wired and inebriated idiots.  Not.Electric koolaid? ... shades of Timothy Leary. But how'd they even find their way to class drinking that stuff, much less take an exam?!? I remember one time this guy told me that he could hear colors. Um, okay ...
