With all the news about child labor in cocoa plantations, I'm wondering if anybody has a list of "safe" brands of unsweetened cocoa powder and unsweetened baking chocolate.
I'll surely use up what's in my house already, but I'd like to buy Fair Trade chocolate when it's time to go shopping again. |

In Europe we have lots af fair trade product they are often called Max Harvelar
I am quite sure if you look out for organic produce you´ll be pretty safe as well- most fair trade cocoa is organic here. |

I was hoping not to have to pay double for organic just to get fair trade. |

Hi Ruthie Like Henriette, I'm only familiar with UK brands which doesn't help you that much. Here's a list similar to Henriette's for the USA: http://fairtradeusa.org/products-partners/cocoaGood luck, it's really a worthwhile thing to do! Andy |

I use Black and green a lot myself.
Here in NZ Black & Green is owned by Cadbury...Should be the same all over the world...Wonder how fair trade they are really??!! Cadbury certainly weren't "fair trade" when they sold out to Kraft & shut the factory in England??!! I avoid them like the plague tbh |

I know they were sold to cadbury but is still taste good and is on the fair trade list Several of the big brands here in DK has gone fair trade so just bc your are huge doesn´t mean you can´t be fair trade or for that matter organic. Mabe I am naive but I am used to high levels of safety regarding organic produce etc- and normally the authaurities ( cant spell)check up here in EU |

Loving Earth raw cocoa products are fairtrade and sustainable but can be a little more expensive because they are organic also... but very strong so you use much less so could still be economical. |

I buy Equal Exchange and love it. The cocoa is about double the price of Hershey's or Nestle, but it's organic and the flavor is smoother and less harsh. |
