I found a really yummy dish that I could make lots of and not tire of (at least for a long while) that has all but one compliant ingredient which is oyster sauce which is a very important ingredient as it makes the dish what it is.  The one sold at the store has non-compliant ingredients.  It has shoyu, MSG, some kind of caramel?, something I believe is derived from wheat, and just a couple of other possible/probable non-compliant ingredients.  

Is there a homemade recipe for oyster sauce or a good way to make a substitute?  I scanned foodsub.com but didn't even see oyster sauce.

By the way, how bad is MSG?  For example, if doing the diet very compliantly, but allowing for a small percentage of cheating using seasoning/condiments, would MSG be very bad to not even consider?  I ask because upon reading other people's opinions on the internet, I notice some people say it is so very, very bad.  Is it really that bad that I couldn't buy a product if the only non-compliant ingredient is MSG?

For me MSG is bad.

It is also something that many people react to in response to small amounts.

MSG increase blood levels of glutamate, which overstimulates neurons and can lead  to various psychological and physical problems.

You may want to see if you notice any of these symptoms after eating MSG:

Headache
Change in mood
Flushing
Sweating
Heart palpitations
Chest pain
Nausea
Weakness

try blending a sardine, and add the spices you like......make a fish sauce, using beneficials
if soy is on your list, try some drops of tamari sauce and other mixed in

Can you find a health food store that might sell it?  I know I've seen this in health food stores....but I don't know what the brand is.  Check out Truthinlabeling.org for info on MSG.  It's hideous....for EVERYONE!  It causes many many many health problems that most people are not aware of....many sympotms that most people assume are just natural but are not and there are many hidden forms of MSG.  IMO, it's the worse thing on our store shelves and should be avoided at all cost regardless of what diet anyone is following.

Thanks for all your comments.  I hope I will soon tolerate fish.  If it gives me symptoms, it doesn't bother me that I can tell or if it does, it is so minor, but it gives my ebf baby a red ring around her anus.       I miss eating fish.  But I will try this sardine idea and test it once again.  Maybe if it is ground up, it won't bother her.  Crossing my fingers!

I believe the msg probably affects me but again, the symptoms don't bother me.  But it's just that it seems msg as an avoid is worse than say, cucumbers as an avoid.  Maybe because I feel cucumbers are a food whereas msg is not natural, even though some say it is natural.  But that makes it so hard because this is Japan, the home of Ajinomoto.       So msg is found in practically everything.  I found a rice cracker chip brand that is cheap (and much cheaper than the kind from the health food store) that has all compliant ingredients except for msg.  It would make for such a convenient, cheap snack.  I also wish the health food store would sell oyster sauce, but unfortunately they don't.
