Made some ghee with unsalted organic butter and it did not solidify, can I reheat it and try again?

It won't solidify until the temp gets cold; if it's hot where you live, it may stay liquid (mine does), unless you put it in the fridge (tho I don't).

How hot is your kitchen? My ghee (that solidified quite nicely a few weeks ago when I first made it) is only semi-solid now.

I think I'll need a spoon, rather than a knife, for ghee in the summertime, unless I want to waste energy by lowering the air conditioner.

If you think that this batch is just more liquidy, and your kitchen is cool enough, then I don't think it would hurt anything to re-cook the ghee.

The same thing happened to mine. It only solidified up to 3/4 of the jar and the top is liquid...I do live in the tropics and it is hot so that's good to know.

Maybe there's still some water left in it.

You can put it in the fridge but that will make it hard.  If you're using it to cook, that's ok because it will melt in the pan.  I would think it probably doesn't have to be solid, as long you keep it clean - in a sterilized jar and don't contaminate it with a wet spoon or knife.

How hot has it been lately in N.Y.?

I reheated it  lets see if it gets hard, I suspect not. But it is not that hot here right now.

I let mine rest on the counter in its glass jar after I've strained it, with a ktichen towel over it.  It does seem to take a while to solidify.  Are you expecting too much too soon possibly?  After all, a watched ghee does not solidify.  

V, I left for quite some time and still nothing.

When you touch the container, does it still feel warm, or cool/room temp?

my ghee never solidifies if left outside on the kitchen counter, which I do.....use it for everything possible ......I do not contaminate it with dirty utensils and constantly make new batches according to demand

It was cool I have had it solidify in the past.  No dirty utensils where in it.

mine never does......and I never stick it in the fridge either.....not my thing.....

although it really never gets too cold around this lateral

Ditto with everyone else. My ghee only becomes solid in the coldest months. In the summer when it is completely liquid I often put it in the fridge overnight and then on the counter during the day when cooking/eating. It helps to keep a happy medium for me. I don't much care for ghee in the liquid state, except for cooking.

However, I noticed that it also depends of the kind of butter. I use goat or waterbuffalo and the latter seems to have a lower melting point.

got firm after the second boil so maybe I didn't let it go long enough.

It's nice to know that it can be boiled twice, mine is still on the liquid side, but tastes good.  

BTW - butter made from cows on grass - tend to be more liquid when mde into ghee.

yesterday was my first time trying GHee !! Smell was awesome!! its like microwave popcorn with butter, well off course! anyways i finally found a butter substitute.. it gave awesome taste and smell too the boring egg whites
