Seems like a lot of info says it stores better at room temperature before cutting, but even though I called my son today to have him put the watermelon away, I got home, and it was sitting out. So I was a little irritated.
I have no clue if it's bad or not though.

Watermelon shouldn't have spoiled from sitting out for 8 hours... It may dry out a little where it was exposed to the air, but it shouldn't hurt its "edibility"...
