Suzanne, you don't use anything on your produce?  Soap does in fact kill bacteria and viruses. That's why doctors started washing their hands with soap before surgery and the death rate from infection dropped dramatically.   Soap makes a slick surface so the bacteria and other crawlies can't stick to the produce and is wash away as well as destroyed.

I use both a clorox rinse and a soap rinse.  The soap I use is as pure as I can find with no fragrance or added antibiotics.
