I do like to eat cabbage but it some times doesn't like me!
Does anyone have an idea how to prepare it cooked or raw with other ingredients to cancel the gas effects it gives me? My wife and puppies would be so ever thankful to you. BTW I do go to the bathromm or outside when I have the problem but at night when I am sleeping it's beyond my control so I mostly avoid cabbage. My DW bought me a bottle of beano but it doesn't work most of the time.
Thanks

Maybe try making Kim Chi, there are a lot of good recipes out there. I use garlic, green onions, ginger (small piece), pepper flakes, sea salt or kim chi salt, and cabbage (napa cabbage is best but others do work). The nice part about kim chi is that it is a fermented food that has lots of good probiotic bacteria and its tasty especially with korean food. Chop the cabbage into bite size pieces and soak in a warm salt water bath. It sould be about as salty as the sea water. Then I chop up the other ingrediants and then drain the cabbage. I mix all the ingrediants up together using kim chi red pepper flakes is best but other substitutions can be made and you can put more pepper or less depending on taste, be sure to add some more salt before bottling as the cabbage absorbs it and the end result will not be salty enough with out adding more. 1 nappa cabbage will probably make a little less then 1 quart jar, you will need to pack it down really tight so there are no air pockets and store it in the refrigerator. I would wait 3 or 4 days and try it for the more fermented style you can wait several more days, I like it freshly made. My AB Teacher fiance says its the only way for him to eat cabbage with out getting lots of gas, he gets hardly any. Beano is full of Sulfites that they don't tell you on the label and is avoid on the teacher diet and my fiance is allergic to sulfites too so he never takes them.

I know what you mean about the cabbage.  I make my own Kim Chee or you can purchase a jar at the Whole foods Market if you have one near you, I have had it and it is very good.  I have not had any fermented foods since I started the BTD, so hopefully you can have them to eat with your food to help with your digestion of the cabbage.  I use to mix my fermented food with my food and it definitely helped with gas.

Rodney have you tried having ginger either in with the cabbage dish, or separate in tea or water or juice or even capsules.  It does help gas.

Gatherers have an interesting item listed called epazote.  It's common in latin cooking and one of it's properties is that it helps with gas, from beans especially. I haven't found it yet, but I haven't gone to a latin market.  Those are pretty easy to find here in Texas.

Epazote, Mexican Tea, Herba Sancti Mariæ, Wormseed
{Chenopodium ambrosioides - Chenopodiaceae}

You can find seeds in many mailorder herbal/specialty catalogs.
It is also fast approaching an invasive weed in some areas...
