Tips for Building Muscle and Burning Fat

New in Personalized Living Webzine:

Quoted Text
Many people on typical “weight loss” diets are under the mistaken impression that eating “light” meals, or eating fewer and smaller meals during the day can help them lose weight. The reverse is actually true.

quoting  from this article.

"One significant study demonstrated that during the normal six-hour resting metabolism period, we typically burn about 270 calories. When eating a single meal of carbohydrates alone or fat alone, the energy burned during this six-hour period reached 290 calories (an additional 20 calories). Interestingly, when eating protein alone the subjects in this study burned 310 calories during this six hour period (an additional 40 calories). It appears, protein alone had double the thermogenic potential over fat or carbs alone"

What exactly did this study prove for any of us following the BTD or GTDs?  We don't eat mono diets....Most of us aren't doing food combining....although this appears to be an argument for losing more weight if eating just protein.....and how many people would put a piece of fish on a plate and eat just that?  Nuts alone, yes I do that....but a meal of just carbs might spike blood sugar for many of us.

The Paleo book I read said the same thing about protein upping metabolism and burning fat more than the other food groups.  Should we be looking to concentrate on more of a Paleo approach now if we want to lose weight?  Was Paleo right all along?

Well, I wonder how much weight I WOULD have lost if I had eaten a lot more protein when I lost that forty pounds a few years back???..... I wouldn't want to think I had to go there! No way!  I ate very balanced meals for an A-Type Nonnie. And I did count the protein grams I ate to make sure I had enough but not more than enough.

I upped the animal proteins, it did not improve my metabolism - some people with slow metabolism are not always overweight. It also did not help me build back the muscle I lost, and I was doing a lot of exercise, resistance training.
The extra animal proteins, led to I just more sluggish activity in lower digestive region, more cellulite on my thighs, my hair and skin dryer, more fatigue, and sense of general wellbeing was far from good.
If a person has little or poor digestive enzymes or the small intestine is not healthy, or too much toxicity in the middle organs or anywhere in the digestive system with unbalanced bacteria and yeast flora, then the proteins won't be well digested, the aminos won't be assimilated, even with digestive enzyme tablets/capsules.
sometimes, resting the system in some way may be the answer or some changes, more raw veg juice or salads helping me a lot.  Breakfast - just fresh fruit (plenty of it - different types of fruit) on its own in mornings. I'm glad I kept trying until I found something which seems to be working better, and more good news - I don't feel I need all the herbal teas, or green tea in the morning as fresh fruit seems to be working so well.
