Ask Dr. D’Adamo: Why Can’t I Eat Coconut?

New in Personalized Living Webzine:

Quoted Text
Question: Is the avoid status of Coconut Oil for Type O Secretors (and other types for that matter) based on the high saturated fat content or the existence of a harmful lectin remaining in oil?  I just wanted to get this cleared up because some reports say coconut is healthy for you, and some say it’s not. All of this debate is driving me just a little batty!/

What about the argument that coconut oil is excellent brain food and can combat alzheimer's disease?  My husband is an O+ secretor and an APO E4/4, so I am thinking that coconut oil, while not great for cholesterol is good for his brain health?

This sounds like a repeat of what Dr D said in one of his columns a few years ago. I'm surprised he didn't have a more updated answer, considering how so many more people can have coconut oil on  GTD and SWAMI than can have it on BTD. Plus it's only "neutral" on BTD but can be "beneficial" on some people's SWAMIs.

It is based on the Ask Dr. D'Adamo column from 2004:

So, given the date, shall we assume that our SWAMI rating for coconut oil would be the current approach for each to follow?

Of course! If coconut oil is a diamond for you, then it's a diamond for you personally! Dr D's explanation still explains why he doesn't recommend coconut oil for EVERYBODY- but only for some people.

Thanks, C_sharp and Ruth,
I just wanted that concept to be posted for those who might be confused about how the article affects them personally.
