Some restaurants add pancake batter to scrambled eggs to make them fluffier!  Make sure that you are getting REAL eggs (not egg substitute) and that they are prepared without any additives....

Some of those tips may not be enough for somebody very sensitive. Like the one about "make sure your fish is prepared without flour." But if they put it on the same grill where other filets have been fried with flour, there will still be gluten contamination! And if they dust your with cornstarch since you asked for "gluten free" that won't  be much better for an O or a B!

You do have to be careful. maltodexin is an example. everyone thinks it should be avoided as it is usually derived from corn. In fact it can be derived from wheat and so has a coeliac danger. yet it is in many medicines that are taken my coeliac's! where you see a starch one should assume a gluten risk

In the US, maltodextrin is usually derived from corn.

In the UK and Europe, it is usually derived from wheat.

But one often does not really know, so if one is sensitive one has to not eat it.

I do just as poorly on corn as I do on wheat, so it doesn't really matter to me if it's corn based or wheat based; it's still toxic for me.

Breadcrumbs are sometimes added to sushi rolls.  

The most frustrating example of senseless use of flour (for me) is that the sweet potato fries at my local burger joint are coated with flour before they're fried.  Fortunately I can get away with eating them sometimes.


My SWAMI diet is a blend of BTD and GTD Explorer, but I'm not totally compliant.  Also I try to choose foods that have a Low Glycemic index.  DW and DD are A+, probably also Explorer.

I have a lovely friend (type O of course) who is highly gluten sensitive.  Unfortunately she and her husband have an extremely active social life, and to make matters worse they eat at restaurants a LOT.  No matter how careful she is about ordering in a restaurant, 9 times out of 10 she will wind up with pain and uncontrollable diarrhea.  

Sometimes she goes without eating rather than take her own food, or she eats "the best things she can find" and is sick.  She tries so very hard to stick to the ER O Diet and lost a whole bunch of weight which was very good for her health, but with a schedule like that she will never be truly healthy.  

I feel so very sorry for her.  I did strongly suggest that she start taking Deflect and she mentioned the other day that she needed more, so perhaps that is helping her somewhat.  




6 years on ER BTD, went from sick and dying to healthier And 30 pounds slimmer.  

Dec 2013: Started Swami Xpress - I'm 48% Explorer with hybridized Explorer/BTD list. A new adventure for this old lady!  -- LOST 5 more pounds on SWAMI!

I try to be very careful. One of the things I don't do is: I don't eat in restaurants.

When I enter a cafe - it happens when I'm in town and have some time to burn before an appointment - I order hot water with spearmint leaves (and then they are never organic).
