Okay guys I am 10 days in to my swami gatherer diet. I started a gatherer diet months ago but fell off the wagon. Im back on again now. Here is the thing. I don't feel that great yet. I am wondering if thats a sugar detox thing and if I'm expecting too much too soon? I am skinny, but look even skinnier and my skin looks a bit yellowish.  I look greyish when i eat eggs and read meat.  Im crazing fruit. But also do seem to not be as hungry as usual.
I can't help wonder if I am actually an explorer as I have extreme caffeine sensitivity and a type a mother. I am also a little asymmetric and have a slightly squarish jaw.  But my finger patterns, leg length and other things must be pointing to gatherer. I don't store alot of fat- and lose weight when I'm stressed- but don't look well too skinny. when I do gain weight it is on my tummy and upper arms and jawline.
I had gestational diebeties in my first pregnancy and I was put on a "gatherer Like" low gi diet only two pieces of fruit a day - or less, and focusing on stable blood sugars. By the end of my pregnancy I Glowed.

Do you think is should hang in there and my body will start showing benefits soon?
One more thing - in the past when I've attempted to go vegan I feel amazing for a couple of days but feel i crave meat badly by day 3.

Would love to have some experts chime in. and if you think I'm on the right track or misstyped

My main goal is not weight loss - but having radiant skin and feeling full of life.

Thankyou!

Hi HannahBee, why not try the O Explorer diet and see if it fits better? It sounds like you may indeed be an Explorer. Have you possibly mis- measured your leg and torso ratios? It's tricky, and it happens. Get someone to help you.

The liver could be involved with the yellowish skin.  Liver issues are often an explorer issue.  But my wife is an O gatherer and one time she had elevated liver enzymes, and her blood sugar was slightly elevated.  She is not drug sensitive though, usually requires the highest doses to feel something, opposite of me even though i try to convince myself that i can be like that too and then pay for it!  She definately does best with a "paleo" type of diet.

The gatherer diet is more "paleo" than the explorer diet, which is "mesolithic" and has more allowance for some carbohydrates and other food groups, and actually has lesser quantities of red meats and such.

I think it is imperative to give major diet changes at least a month or two to allow the body to adjust.  You say you can already see changes, but there are some "alarming" symptoms as well.  The yellow skin indicates that the liver is getting worked, which is normal when the body is getting rid of waste matter.  You can supplement per the Liver protocol in necessary to help the liver continue to work well.

Thanks so much every one.  I am eating a lot of veggies.  I am having a fresh low sugar green juice, or freshly squeezed grapefruit juice every morning. and follow that with scrambled eggs with greens, or onions mixed through them. Lunch is a big salad, some basmati rice, and some sort of animal protein. (free range organic) and dinner is the same, with maybe quinoa, snacks are compliant food bliss balls. Im also drinking a little green tea and lemon water.  Im focusing on "eating The rainbow" of complaint foods.  I do feel confused because The gatherer diet worked when i was pregnant - But in a strange way the gestational diabetes made my body behave more like a gatherer in that i was storing fat - When I normally don't.  Although i feel if i ate a ton of fructose everyday i would gain weight again - If i wasn't working out.  Its interesting what you say about the leg measurements - i may re do them. I also dint have a protracted to do my jaw measurements. So i made a guess.  I definitely feel like the yellowish skin was a liver thing.  but i look and feel quite good this morning so maybe I'm about to turn a corner!  the only thing that makes me feel like an explorer. Also which type is prone to adrenal issues - I had fatigue a few months ago - but my body seems to be slowly healing from that.

I meant to say the only thing that makes me feel like an explorer is caffeine sensitivity - so extreme.  and a type a mother and this feeling that too much animal protein is making me look older than i look when i try vegan.

Sounds like you need to drink water, water, water.  Try drinking 100-120 oz. per day.

Thanks - I thought i had been - But will try even more water. was taking a liver supplement but i can't find the packet now!  I just want the yellowish tone to go and the peachy one to start!  have you guys heard of the idea of eating light to heavy throughout the day? Kimberly snyder recommends this. I was wondering if this would work well for explorers because it keeps the body cleansing for longer. (kimberly starts the day with a green smoothie and recommends meat only in the evenings) does Peter ever talk about this?

There's actually a diet called "Vegan Before 6pm," which sounds like what you're describing.

I think I do better eating heavy to light.  Having supper for breakfast works really well for me.

My understanding is that the BTD, GTD and SWAMI tell us what to eat, and how much, and what not to eat.  But there's little advice on when to eat and in what combinations, with the exception of the Geno-Harmonic lists near the end of a SWAMI report.  But that means these diets are flexible enough to try your own food timing and combining experiments.

My SWAMI diet is a blend of BTD and GTD Explorer, but I'm not totally compliant.  Also I try to choose foods that have a Low Glycemic index.  DW and DD are A+, probably also Explorer.

I definitely eat light to heavy. BF at 8 is always half an  avocado, 1 small (less than an oz) of organic deli turkey and some celery for the quac.  Lunch is at 3 and it is usually a small salad with 2 oz protein and dinner at 6:30 is 3 oz P with a salad and some other veggie. If I need a snack it is nuts , olives or a scoop of left over guac. No grains for me. Nothing stops my digestion in it's tracks faster not to mention I am also a diabetic.

HannahBee,
If you are following your SWAMI, it doesn't really matter a lot what the "Genotype" name is, because the entire program is individualized just for you.  If you are following the genotype book, however, it does matter what Genotype the advanced calculator shows you to be.

I advise remeasuring everything, more carefully.  Gather any tools you need to help you with accuracy, even get a friend to help you.  If there is any question about your finger length, try measuring on the palm side of your hands instead of between the fingers.  I must have measured everything 4 or 5 times before I felt really sure that everything was correct.

I didn't feel good for 2 or 3 months after starting my SWAMI diet, but then, things shifted and I began to feelthat I was really on the right program for myself.  Of course, you have the right to eliminate any foods that you think are wrong for you and with the SWAMI, you can specify what type of diet you would like to emphasize.

Normal day, let me be aware of the treasure you are.
Let me not pass you by in quest
of some rare and perfect tomorrow.

Thanks for that. I will re measure.   I made a breakfast this morning of butterbeans, rice, ghee and greens. and I felt good for a couple of hours But then was more hungry a couple of hours later. - for lunch I had a salad with fresh tuna, lightly cooked and a little leftover basmati rice and i have to say i felt more satisfied.  Maybe I am still detoxing??. TMI - but i had  Body odour under my arms this morning which makes me think my body may be getting rid of something. Maybe its quitting sugar? I've been pretty low fructose for a good 11 days now

That was a lot of carbs for BF without any fat or protein to balance. Carbs are best eaten later in the day rather than BF for lots of people.

I am definitely high fat keto and really much better! My skin glows. People think I am 10 years younger than I am.
I just eat like an O/ Moderate protein, veggies and healthy fats. Grains and dairy, SWAMI approved are no good for me. I incorporate The Rosedale Diet with SWAMI and it works.

Keto is my ticket but you need to find yours. Grains and dairy are horrid for me

My  vote is for detox,  confirmed by the body odor. 10 days is still a pretty short time.

It can't hurt to double check your measurements, but remember that your SWAMI diet is going to vary from any of the diets in the book (otherwise, what's the point of SWAMI?) so don't worry so much about the Gatherer or Explorer label.
