My 23&Me says I can't process caffeine.

When I was a kid coffee would keep my up all night if I had it around 3-4pm. It doesn't keep me awake anymore, but it seems like very green tea can give me some anxiety. Matcha powder straight doesn't seem too, but I only take it in the morning.

It also says I process some drugs slower. That was predicted by Dr. D. But I'm curious about the caffeine and what it might mean as far as carcinogens from say soy, and what's healthy for me now. I marked caffeine sensitive in SwamiX, but it didn't change much aside from coffee and black tea rating. However the green tea rating is interesting given that it seems to strong for me. I use to ignore it, I suppose, didn't have a reason for my mood changing, but now it seems sorta obvious.

Maybe the rh - plays a role.  That is a good question, I have wondered that myself.

I think there are slow acetylators in every genotype but the average of the genotypes are different.  I would think on average hunters are medium high, gatherer are high, teachers are medium, explorers slow, warriors high and nomads slow to medium.

Caffeine doesn't usually effect me terribly (but could be in denial)!  I drink coffee at work every day.  I have drank coffee and gone to sleep soon after and other times it kept me up all night.

Seems like overall it is slow medium for me.  Usually the first intakes of a thing effect me a whole lot and then often it normalizes.  Of course some things continue to be sensitive no matter what and actually increases.

Interesting dr. D. discovered you break things down slow.

Green tea gives me a lot of funky feelings, anxiety and high BP are some of them. Makes me nauseous too. I never thought coffee effected me until I quit and restarted only to do that again but I have quit now. My mood, digestion, energy are all better. No more bloating but the biggest surprise is the effect it had on my muscles and joints. No more aches and pains at all. I had hip and knee pain and occasional hand pain and after about a week without coffee I realized they were gone. Then of course I started a little again and they came back. Coffee is not my friend. Black tea had the same effect so maybe it is caffeine more than just coffee. I wasn't a big fan of tea so no love lost there but coffee??? Love lost

I'm a Hunter and a slow acetylator.  I'm not sure it is genotype specific.  It's genetic.

Dr. D actually recommended coffee to me. I believe he was sure I was a warrior when he walked in the room. It can't be hard for him to guess most of the time.

I think coffee is beneficial to me too in some ways.  It would be very interesting to be assessed by dr. D. and have some definitive info confirmed 100 percent.

There are tests to measure exactly how fast coffee breaks down through the urine to measure acetylation.

I would say I am a slow to medium acetylator because the full effects last awhile and I can smell coffee in my urine for about 3 hours past the last coffee.  And no I don't get close to it!

That's interesting.  I assumed they were pretty fast at that.  My mom is a hunter and she says coffee barely does anything to her and she can take it or leave it.

Dr D. did write about how there are some slow acetylators in every genotype.

When I first started drinking coffee, I got a great morning buzz, which was why I drank it    Once I got used to it, I could drink espresso late at night and it would not keep me up.  The real test is to give it up for a long time and see how your body reacts.  My body became acclimated to it and I could drink it without issue.  I never consumed coffee all day.  Just one very large cup in the morning and sometimes if I went out at night for dinner, I would have a double espresso.

I had my first cups of coffee at age 13, about the same time I got my first set of drums.
I remember lying in bed all night playing In A Gadda Da Vida over and over in my head

If i give up coffee for awhile and then drink it, it is a euphoria feeling at first, on cloud 9.  If i keep drinking it it is stimulating and sometimes do not feel great, keep wanting to drink more of it!  Can go to sleep after drinking it depending on the situation.  If i do not sleep well or only get a few hours of sleep, coffee almost doesn't touch me when i drink it, nor other things.  Something i notice in me.
