Does anyone have any information on the specifics of why Dr D dis-recommends the highly touted coconut oil? Do you know if it's lectin issues or different health-compromising elements?
Thank you!

Since you're a type A you may get coconut oil as a superfood with the Teacher genotype diet, which I get as a G3 Teacher. If you're not familiar with the genotype diet, you should either buy the Genotype Diet book or invest in a SWAMI, which is what I have. Personally, I believe the SWAMI diet is far more superior and accurate.
2 of the 6 genotypes Dr. D has identified as having a tolerant worldview are the Teacher and Nomad genotypes. You could be a Teacher, Warrior, or Explorer as a type A and if your dominant genotype is Teacher, you would be recommended to include it in your diet. Tolerant genotypes have problems with microbial overgrowth that can linger and over time start compromising the persons health. Coconut oil has very strong anti-microbial properties. Yes, coconut oil has a side effect for type A's that flocculates serum proteins on the blood type diet, but the genotype diet attempts to silence the bad genes you have and has more of a long-term outlook. No, it doesn't mean you can consume as much coconut oil as you want because of this side effect, but following the recommended weekly servings would benefit you greatly if indeed you are a Teacher. |

I am G3 Teacher and using coconut oil for cooking. But it may be the cause of raising LDL. Ghee is other option but it is affecting my blood sugar.
It is always unsettling issue for me on choosing cooking oil.
I appreciate any other people's experience. |

Thank you all for the information. I am an A-explorer so....coconut oil won't be so friendly, apparently. Very grateful for the information.

Dr. D: "I don't like the effects of one of the main constituents (lauric acid) on the cytochrome CYP4A subfamily (CYP4A11) when used by GT4 (Explorer); in particular liver peroxisomal oxidation, which is about the last thing GT4 needs in this world.

I also would like to know more about coconut oil and coconut products; I think I read somewhere about the type of fats in the oil and how if affects the liver, but one needs to research more; there is a lot of info on the net.... Some people say just eat young fresh coconut, then one gets the oil along with the enzymes in its whole form. I just have a little oil and mostly in warmer months/weather. |

For what it's worth, coconut oil is a Superfood in my SWAMI report.
Some experts including Dr. Mercola stress that coconut oil must not be refined or purified because those processes would make it less healthy. |

Ok, here goes: causes mis folded proteins, slowed insulin production, changed cell to cell communication, increased sugar and stopped the reduction of sugar in the body and causes damage during protein synthesis. That's my attempt to put it into more managable terms. |

I am trying to choose proper oil for frying pan because olive oil is not good for heat. Ghee and coconut oils are both superfood on my SWAMI. But I am pre diabetic and ghee seems affecting blood sugar level so I am using coconut oil.
I read Dr D's blog and does not quite understand but it seems affecting beta cell relating insulin. If so it would affect blood sugar also.
Anyone has suggestion for cooking oil other than ghee or coconut oil? |

If Dr. D gives you coconut oil as a Superfood, then consider it a Superfood for you, and enjoy. Stay within the portion and frequency recommendations. |

Hi _ Dr D's Bloog starts of with the following : "QUESTION: Is the avoid status of Coconut Oil for Type O Secretors (and other types for that matter) based on the high saturated fat content or the existence of a harmful lectin remaining in the processed (minimally for Joachim) oil. I just wanted to get this cleared up, and I don't think that it ever will until you give us a reason. Sorry, I know that sounds a bit cheeky, but all of this debate is driving me just a little batty."although I would read the whole article as it's well worth a read. http://www.dadamo.com/B2blogs/blogs/index.php/2004/09/19/coconut-oil?blog=27 |

Anyone have recommendation on brand of coconut oil?
Even though it says organic and unrefined, they are all made in other country.
I read a book Fats that Heal, Fats that Kill and author recommends eating fresh coconut but not the oil. |

Whenever there's a dispute between Dr D's targeted nutritional advice and "one size fits all" nutritional advice from another author, I go with Dr D. There's certainly plenty of wisdom from other experts, and somebody else (other than Dr D) may hit on something that's "the final piece of the puzzle" for your health. But whenever there's a direct contradiction with nutritional advice, I go with Dr D.
Coconut oil is a superfood for me, while whole coconut (milk or meat) is an "Avoid" for me. When I'm trying to maximize my health, I strictly stick to my SWAMI food list (though I have cheated with coconut milk on occasion, and didn't notice any problems, I won't take my chances. I want to be healthy.) |

Worth repeating! I have tried coconut oil a neutral for me.. I think it is drying the skin more then I wish.. Neutrals are few and far between, I only like a few.. I only use when cheating.. Avoids are bad cheating.. I cheat 5% and that is way to much.. IF I DO BTD or Geno or Swami I am feeling the best. |

Nutiva is my very favorite brand and tastes sweet and "coconut-y" plus it's organic. Many brands taste like soap to me. I highly recommend this brand for flavor and consistency. |

I started Swami diet last November and stay very close to super or diamond.
Coconut oil and ghee are both super for me so I was using coconut oil for cooking. Since coconut meat is void I switched to ghee 2 weeks ago.
I used get mouth sore quite often. It is very painful and last one week. Then I noticed I was not getting it.
Then I started mouth sore one after another. Only diet change I made last 2 weeks was switching cooking oil. So I changed to coconut oil, and it is healed in less 24 hours.
Biona looks very impressive but it is not an easy item to get in USA so I will stay with Nutiva.
Thank you for your inputs.

Hi sunnyside!
I use Trader Joe's organic coconut oil to do "oil pulling" and put a little on my 6 dog's dry food. Their coats are shiny (they also get fish oil) and they don't scratch anymore! I have used other oils (sunflower, grapeseed) for the mouth oil pulling but prefer coconut oil as my teeth feel cleaner! If my hair gets too much static I also rub a little coconut oil on the tips/ends. |
