so i'm fairly new to this, i've read and re-read the blood type books and tried it several years ago. i'm O+, non-secretor...it worked pretty well but then sort of fell apart completely diet wise and now i'm finally re-focused to get healthy again.
SO...in reading (just on the site) i can say that i'm a gatherer from description. i have PCOS along with metabolic syndrome, i am fairly short, infertility issues, high blood pressure, and serious abdominal fat.
i'm not even sure where to start. can't get the book for a while, but i'm curious about WHAT does a gatherer focus on, food-wise? i know the "O" system, but in doing the 'which diet is best for me' inventory, it said i should focus on genotype.
so...what, as a gatherer, do i do? i'll be getting the book but i'd love a headstart. thanks!
Can you get the Geno book from your library? This is what I did, then when I got my own book I had my list. you might get a surprise, you could end up being an explorer or hunter. bone lengths, and fingerprints count a lot. It seems to me that the wrong diet can do more damage than good.
Area's that you can get a head start in are: All O need exercise, walking, is great but I need aerobic so see what will suit you. Also eliminate your dairy, learn to make ghee, and or almond milk at least find good sources for them. Cut the coffee. As a gatherer sugar is my issue find your subs, or get it out of the house with is better. Work on cutting back on your carbs.

fill in the avatar and it will help us.. I guess you are still young.. belly fat what is serious..?
I would simply say take any book ad do what it tells you they are similar enough.. maybe a little less sweet stuff on gatherer.. but any start is better then any other way of life..
welcome, all the best..
When I see other peoples medicines schedule-I am happy to be here taking care of my health I only wish to drop weight more easily-life would be perfectionBeing 'here' creates understanding. BTD prevents damage from eating avoids. Thanks Dr D & your sups - all support and friendships

You shouldn't assume that you're a Gatherer just from the descriptions- you could still be a Hunter or Explorer; the measurements in the back of the Genotype book will help you determine that. Any of the genotypes can be overweight and have health problems when out of balance.
If you can swing it, a SWAMI is the best way to go. This is a computer program that calculates a diet just for you, using your family history, blood type, and the measurements used to determine your Genotype. This software blends blood type diet and genotype values when determining which foods are good or bad for you.
It also seems to me (based on my own experience and that of others who've shared on the internet) that the Genotype diet "by the book" tends to work better for secretors than for non-secretors. If you're not able to get a SWAMI right now, you may be better off doing the BTD again rather than starting on GTD.

Well, you sound like you could be a Gatherer, but then again, you just can't be sure until you've done all the measurements. Many people have been surprised!
If you can't afford the Genotype book, I'm guessing that you couldn't afford the SWAMI at this time. Can you check out the book from the library? I did that with several of the books until it was easier for me to invest in them. You will need that book if you want to get a jump start on how to eat right now, anyway.
Or if you have LR4YT, you can always work with the O non-secretor diet in that book for now. It won't be that big a difference for a while.

Ruthie girl, I got the book, did not do the secretor status test. But in the book, going by my measurements, blood type etc it put me in as GATHERER, regardless of whether I was a secretor or not. I mean those results in the end- was gatherer for both secretor and non secretor status. So I did not do any further testing. As far as those questionnaire about family history etc, it did add some percentage of other genotypes, but only small percentage. So I am following the diet from the book. I have had good results in other ways except weight loss. That is not budging. Everybody I talk to says BTD is better for weight loss. You think testing SWAMI is beneficial? For weight loss? I wish there was D Adamo center in long island, NY. I would definitely go visit.
