I'm typing this in a significant amount of discomfort! I'm in a hotel in Prince Frederick Maryland and this afternoon I took my youngest daughter to the pool for a little while. After swimming I soaked in the hot tub and turned on the jets. It proceeded to foam up considerably. It was nice at first, but the foam was getting to be too much after a short while and the chlorine smell was becoming very overwhelming. I had shaven my underarms this morning and felt a little burning, so I got out after 15 or 20 minutes. It isn't unusual for me to cut myself shaving and have some discomfort as I am quite sensitive there, so I didn't think too much of it.
Since my daughter and I had a long walk this morning and a swim at the pool in the afternoon, we laid down for afternoon naps. I was feeling sleepy enough but was feeling an awful lot of burning under mostly my right underarm. My loose shirt rubbing against it was feeling very aggravating, so I knew something was going on. I got up after an hour or so and looked in the mirror and sure enough the skin is puffing up and very inflamed. I just took ibuprofen because the pain was getting pretty intense. I have nothing with me here in terms of anti-inflammatory meds, which I would hate to have to take. I did take a cold washcloth to the area but that hurts more than having nothing touch it.
I have no doubt there is some chemical overreaction going on here as I do have some Explorer tendencies. Any advice? Prayers would be nice too since I don't know how long this feeling might last. Thanks.

Since you are pretty sure the cause, I would suggest either the allergy or liver protocol... Whichever supplements or foods that you may have available.

Calendula or aloe vera gel may help take away the sting, applied topically. |

Feel for you!! There are such a lot of chemicals in our faces every day??!! I usually try drinking some hot water with bicarb in it, as soon as I feel affected & tbh, even though I hope it works for you, personally I would avoid the calendula & aloe vera - but that's probably just me Hope you feel better soon?! |

I have had surprisingly good results for all kinds of skin issues by spreading on extra virgin organic coconut oil. It's possible that this is not an 'allergic reaction', but rather a severe irritation due to recently shaved skin and an extra strong dose of chemical water treatment. Hope you feel better soon! |

Soaking in epsom salts may help remove the toxins from your body and reduce the irritation. If you have a bathtub in your hotel room and access to a drugstore that sells epsom salts, you may want to give this a try.
Lemon in water is another good thing for detox, and should be readily available in a hotel setting. Just squeeze some lemon into a cup of water and drink. Maybe pick up a few lemons to keep in your room so you can drink lots of lemon water even if you're not in a restaurant. |

I am feeling better now about 24 hours later. Swelling is going down but the area is still very red and sensitive. We have moved into another hotel (which was planned weeks ago, long story...) so I may try the pool in a few days after I have no more symptoms.
All the ideas sound very good, but not being at home is making it a little difficult to access many good products. It's funny that you mentioned lemon water, ruthiegirl, because that has been a morning ritual of mine for a long time which I haven't been following since we left on our trip last weekend. We are going to a grocery store shortly since the hotel suite we're in now has a nice kitchenette and refrigerator. I will start my days with lemon water again for the remainder of the trip, even though I don't have my juicer with me. I notice a little more congestion now too and the lemon water helps remove the mucous.
Thank you again for the advice. Any more would be appreciated.

Update: Redness and sensitivity turned into some kind of immune allergic response. By Friday night it was turning into hives; very itchy and was starting to spread a bit around the underarms and upper chest and neck. I upped my dosage of Vitamin C and quercetin which is about are the best immune booster supplements I have with me on this trip.
Last night (Saturday night) we decided to stop at the drug store and buy some generic benedryl hydrocortizone cream since the itching/burning was pretty incessant. It seems like it is now helping, though the area is still not by any means healed, and still becomes itchy a couple hours after administering the cream.
I feel my immune issues are probably more related to stress now than anything else. On top of not sleeping well most nights, we are searching for a rental to move into as we will be moving to the southern Maryland area next month. We've had 2 properties that we've wanted to pursue fall through due to someone else signing a lease just before we could. We will be looking at a couple more today (Sunday) and are concerned that we will get our hopes up again just to have another home snatched away at the last minute. I know it will all work out in the end, but there's still that fear I know we must try to put out of our minds.
I'd appreciate prayers that this will all work out well as we only have a few more days to find a rental before we have to return home. Thanks! |
