Hello everyone, I miss Coconut water so much.    I used to drink and make smoothies with Coconut water but since I have been following the blood type diet I stopped drinking it. So I was wondering if Genotype Teacher can drink it or not ?  In Genotype Diet coconut meat is Toxin but coconut oil is a Diamond.  However, it doesn't say anything about Coconut water.

Any idea or any advice please? Thank you very much. I appreciate it very much!

If its a neutral I hope you reintroduce back into your life.

If you look carefully, the Neutrals are not shown in The Genotype Diet book for each type...

I drink a coconut water a day, it helps keep the puffiness away. Especially in this horrible heat and dry weather we are having. It feels like living in the desert (106 today). I can really tell the difference if I forget to drink one.

I was about to post a new topic inquiring about coconut water, as suddenly it is all I'm hearing about in foodie/health food circles.  It seems to be the new "It Girl" of same.  I'm all a'twitter and ready to try it myself, but I will definitely read the ingredients to see waaaaaaaas aaaaauuuup and ensure I don't get any baddies in any given branded drink.  Coconut is an avoid for me, but I do occasionally consume coconut milk in Thai food (Thai food is MY FAVORITE...  but I probably only actually go out for Thai around 2 to 4 times per year, MAX).  I'm wondering if the coconut water would have the avoid properties, though.

I shall read further in this thread and likely find out!  See, I so LOVE this forum!!!!  I just KNEW there would be a discussion on coconut water in progress.

Okay, read the entire thread and apparently the consensus is that coconut water is unlisted, thus neutral--YAY!!!!!!!  I knew it was unlisted, I just didn't know if it fell under any other listed component of coconut, but since the consensus among my peeps is that no, it probably doesn't, I'm going to TRY IT and I have a strong feeling I'm going to not just like, but LOVE it.

Like I said, I will read the fine print ingredients label, though, because at the dog park tonight, folks were talking about brands they like of it, and I could just TELL (when you are on the BTD/GTD long enough, you get to the point at which you can just TELL stuff like the following  ) that the brands they were discussing contained sugar of some type, because they were like "oooooh, it is sooooo goood and it comes in this flavor and that flavor and blah blah" and I'm thinking:  y'all are rhapsodizing like, and have the telltale looks in your eyes of, SUGAR ADDICTS *lol*!!!!!  So, I'll have to try to find a brand that is either plain coconut water--oh, now I remember the brand they were talking about:  it is called "Coco" (not sure how it is spelled, but that's how they pronounced it).  Is that an acceptable brand that any of y'all have tried?  Anyway, I will look for one that is either very plain/pure coconut water, OR one of the branded drinks like Coco, in a flav that excites me (they mentioned watermelon!!!), but I will read the ingredients to ensure there isn't a bunch of sugar, "natural flavors" and goodness knows what else.  I suggest y'all do the same when perusing the aisles of wherever for your coconut water.

Meet back here at 0600 hours to report our findings!

So, I'll have to try to find a brand that is either plain coconut water--oh, now I remember the brand they were talking about:  it is called "Coco" (not sure how it is spelled, but that's how they pronounced it).  Is that an acceptable brand that any of y'all have tried?

The only one I have tried is Zico: http://zico.com/products

You are correct that the flavored ones have more ingredients that need to be checked carefully, but the Natural is good.  I chose not to try the Pomegranate as it is an avoid for me...

(((HUG))) Hi, I am sorry that you can not find fresh coconut water in your area. It is a huge product over here. One thing I am missing is coconut meat. (coconut meat is an avoid for me) so when I buy coconut for the water, I have to throw the rest of the coconut away!  Before BTD, I would enjoy both the water and the young, soft and yummy coconut meat.  Oh!  It's so difficult for me to throw away the coconut without eating!

The best coconut water I have tasted and I put it in my smoothies and drink a can a day is  the ones from Thailand. the coconuts are smaller and sweeter.  One of the brands that is especially good is "Coco cool". It has no sugar added!

I now live in NYC and go to Chinatown regularly.  They sell coconut water there on the streets.  They have young coconuts, peeled and ready to go.  When you buy one, they lop the top of the coconut off, stick in a straw and hand it to you!  The coconut, itself, has almost no meat inside it and what is there is sort of thin and soft and flabby...obviously these coconuts are for the water only.

It's OK, but not my favorite and I would probably never buy one again.  I guess I don't really like coconut water, so, for me, body says in must be an avoid!

I realized I had one container of Naked brand coconut water in my 'fridge that I must have
bought to try but never opened it, so after reading this thread
wondered how it would taste...I find it interesting that my energy increased afterwards but more importantly, my always tight muscles felt no aches or tightness an hour after drinking one container..which BTW with no other coconut water to compare it to, it tasted pretty good to me...and I wondered what specifically about coconut water would have not only boosted energy but alleviated muscle pain.  I know that people low on electrolytes often get muscle spasms...
but I was sure I was getting the basic amount of electrolytes in my diet and drinking water.
Maybe not~

I normally put salt into my drinking water....with lemon or lime, but just a pinch of natural
Himalayan sea salt...and I eat plenty  of fruits and veggies in their raw state...but why would coconut water make my muscles feel suddenly feel so much better?

Well, on the container of coconut water, I read the nutritional value. It's super high in potassium!
And that makes sense to those living where coconuts are naturally grown...in the tropics, where
people often sweat a lot...losing bodily fluids...and needing to replenish electrolytes.  Apparently
Mother Nature has packaged the perfect electrolyte liquid inside of a coconut which is easily
found in tropical climates.  I know my drinking water which comes from a well on our property is not going to be naturally high in potassium.

AHA, is potassium the missing link?  (for me, anyway) and I wondered if my sodium/potassium ratio was off and unbalanced to where my sodium intake was higher than potassium instead of the other way around....

So now I'm hooked....on coconut water because it tasted really refreshing...I've read all the
brands people compared on Amazon...but because I only had Naked in the house and it's
from Brazil which many say is tastier than coconut water from the Philippines, this is what I'm
going to purchase again.  Rather expensive in my local health food store...but online sellers have
it for $1.94 per container and found it for free shipping.  So that's a one dollar savings per
container.

So if anyone is interested....read about the potassium/sodium ratio...and our need for greater amounts of potassium.  I almost could feel as if my bodily fluids were now circulating much better...and perhaps offsetting the sodium naturally found in the tuna/canned salmon/sardines I eat often, maybe upping potassium with a coconut water drink just might be MY missing link.

http://www.naturalnews.com/025820_sodium_potassium_health.html

And what if high blood pressure issues are actually because of low potassium in the diet.

http://www.naturalnews.com/027407_potassium_blood_pressure.html

I am totally going to start drinking coconut water.  I wish it had been
tested so each genotype would be sure rather than just let it be
considered neutral for all because it's untested.

This is one of the reasons I have never felt a need to add salt to anything...  I eat quite a bit of fish and some other lightly salted prepared foods.  I also know that I am a heavy iodine user, which sodium can exacerbate.  I know that must be doing something good, as the healing continues...

Wow!!!  Been on this board since 1999 (!), yet the novelty of how WONDERFUL it is never fades!  What substantive, helpful responses, everyone, thanks!

Since posting my first post, I've gone to the HFS about a week or so back and bought several different types of coconut water, because the selection was confusing.  I even asked one of the store owners about certain things like, what's the diff twist "coconut water" and "coconut juice", by the same brand, both saying they contain "young coconut water"?  He said "Nothing, they're the same."  All righty then.  Anyway, I bought coconut water, coconut juice, with pulp, without pulp, with lemon juice added, without, and two diff brands *lol*.  All the kinds I bought were very pure, just coconut water and one kind had lemon juice added.

Well, I didn't really like one brand ("Amy and Brian's") but I did like the tastenirvana brand.  I think it will be something I have occasionally but not every day, certainly.  Why?  Because, even though it has some awesome properties/qualities, such as being very high in potassium, it is also VERY high in sugar.  Granted, it is natural sugar, and I have no qualms about eating, for example, a HUGE piece of watermelon pretty much every day in summer (and year round, if they are good).  I had a huge piece of watermelon today.  However, that is different, in my mind, as watermelon is a whole fruit, whereas, even though coconut juice is unprocessed and natural, unless you are drinking it from the actual coconut, like Equipro described, you are getting it somewhat concentrated, me suspects, in the manufactured form.  Plus, I've been around the BTD block long enough to know what my body is telling me (one of the coolest perks about being a BTD/GTDer:  you learn to listen to and hear what your body is telling you, and to decipher it correctly), and mine told me, at least with that first brand (the "Amy and Brian's") that it was definitely SUGAR OVERLOAD!

It would be great after exercising in the heat, if you were on the verge of collapse or something (otherwise, I'd go for plain water), but for me it is bordering on sickeningly sweet.  I found it very interesting when I told this to my dog park buds, who were all like "You thought it was SWEET?  I didn't think the plain variety had any flavor!"  I thought to myself:  "That's because you guys aren't on the BTD.  You consume corn syrup on a daily basis.  You consume sugar on a daily basis.  Your taste buds and bod can't recognize when something is sweet, mine CAN and this IS."

Anyway, I do like the tastenirvana brand, and like I say, I'll drink it occasionally.  I had some after getting chiro adjustments from my new chiro last week (ooooh, I have to post about him soon--I'M SO PSYCHED TO HAVE A NEW CHIRO...but I digress) and I think it was the ideal thing to drink post chiro adjustment *lol*.  Potassium!  It'll either cure you or kill you after your muscles are worked with like that.

I'm gonna try to find a link to the kind I like and post it in this thread.  I think I'll stick mainly to water, lemon water, and my beloved peppermint-green tea for my drinks, though, and fruit like watermelon for my sugar fix and other nutrients such as lycopene (in the case of watermelon) and potassium.  I do like the coconut water, but my body told me it is too much sugar for me to have on a daily basis, that's fo shoooo!

Okay, here's the kind I like.  A gal who works at the HFS I shop at said this is her fave type, too, and she lived in Thailand for a while and drank fresh coconut water all the time (she also tells me they sell fresh watermelon juice in Thailand...I need to move there ASAP, but I digress again  ):

P.S. re my link above to tastenirvana coconut water:  I tried all the varieties EXCEPT the one with aloe.  Why?  Because it contained an ingredient called "fiber".  WHAT kind of fiber, pray tell?  Since they didn't tell, I didn't buy.  What if it is the dreaded wheat, for example?  I get enough fiber without a mystery variety being added to my coconut water, so nein danke.  I did try their other varieties, namely the straight coconut water (thumbs up) and the variety with pulp (thumbs up--some of the pulp is more like a small Hyundai, but okay, I can work with that  ).

I just got caught up with the posts regarding coconut water.  I was drinking VitaCoco.  The plain is not from concentrate and the ingredients are listed as coconut water and vitamin c.  It is very hydrating and I like it very cold if that's possible here in Florida.  Things stay cold for 5 minutes and then its warm.

I guess I'm now learning about coconut water from Thailand.  I didn't know that the coconuts are sweeter.  I read about tastenirvana just now and next time I go to WF (which will probably be very soon) I'll get some.

I've been feeling the heat more this year than ever before.
