I do put on weight if I eat saturated fat or too much red meat. I do well with olive/sesame oil, moderate protein and low carb. I eat salads all the time. I don't douse my food with fat but I eat enough to satisfy. I use small amounts of ghee to cook with and eat lots of fish. I also eat turkey and some chicken but when I do eat red meat, I only eat 2 ounces at a time. lamb seems better than beef too. I find red meats can make me hungrier sooner, though it seems I can always eat.I do low carb, about 65g animal protein ( tho sometimes I need more) and ample fat as needed, just lower saturated. I eat tons of non starchy veggies and just a few berries for dessert if desired. I also eat a few nuts and seeds if I feel like it but not a lot at a time or I just want more.

There's no such thing as a "one size fits all" diet. What works for one person won't work for somebody else. Even two people with the same blood type can have vastly different "ideal diets" especially in terms of macronutrient ratios. It's easier to find common ground in food choices than in daily ratios. I can easily make a meal that my whole family can eat, but I'll eat more veggies and DS will take more grains and DD1 will have a large fruit smoothie for appetizer or dessert.
It may take some trial and error to figure out what works best for you. If higher fat, lower protein makes you gain weight, then that's obviously not a good choice for you.

I also follow the paleo movement, and many "gurus" are recommending a higher fat intake and a moderate protein intake. They say it is good for self-repair and longevity.
If I eat more butter with vegetables and less beef, while it tastes nice and I'm not as hungry as often, I do get fatter.
Fat just seems to make me fatter. Protein keeps me leaner, but I do eat more often.
Do other O's here have the same experience?
paleo.. well you can serve many masters but be true to you only.. results will tell the tale..
butter, on avoid in the first place.. Beef is Beneficial.. is there a contest? not for me...
Getting fatter? well your way of doing things responds / gives you the results you wish to get..self fulfilling expectations..
Fat or protein.. we are O and then on top of that GATHERER.. we do poorly on fat, above the amount indicated in the books or Swami. All other foods make us spike the insulin.. that in terms makes us tired, sluggish, sick as we get older, causes damage that takes years to heal..
HERE the choices are all yours.. NO ONE will tell you to do the right thing.. The right thing is what you decide as being in concert with your working toward a healthier YOU..
If it works for you keep doing it.. however 44 is that age when triglycerides and insulin start to become important. You can choose to ignore them for a while, but in time you will need to be cognizant of the fact that you are (maybe) doing harm..
Welcome, and all the best .. learn, educate you, and your mind, the body will follow where you lead it.
Being here is invaluable, but not enough. We need ALL the Doctors. I needed them for a very small cancer spot-I could never feel!!! Please do your mammograms! Doing so saved me from cancer later on. I am grateful! Thanks for learning from my experience! I was lucky! I wish the same for YOU!
