1st let me say that I have struggled for a while now with gluten intolerance, neurological issues, and general problems with stress, sleep and gastro intestinal stuff.... and after way to much use of antibiotics over the last several years, candida (I think) BUT here is my father, 92 this year. Mind as sharp as ever. Issues with some vertigo and what you might expect at that age but otherwise amazing. At my age he was easily 10 years younger biologically speaking. Here is the important part...............................He has been a vegetarian since he was 17 years old. I grew up in that household. Vegetable protein made primarily out of gluten and soy which I loved and I ate TONS of.. and more grains generally then you can imagine. The whole wheat bread made, hot out of the oven with fresh butter .. OMG... I could not get enough of that growing up. Buttermilk pancakes... need I say more. Lots of dairy as well by the way. I did not stay 100% vegetarian once I grew into my 20s but I still... School was horrible, I could hardly concentrate, I had low blood sugar, and ( this is not likely that important ) was considered a klutz, the guy who could fall down going UP the stairs. I spent 4 years at a liberal arts college and left with NO degree. Now here I am at at time in my life when my father was in great shape... Im feeling like someone his age instead. People say .. hell your grandmother lived till she was 100 and now with your father, you’ll be in great shape. Dental problems came more frequent as I hit my late 30s and 40s. Then urinary problems, the GI stuff and all the rest of it ...........and its pretty much been downhill from there. I had NO idea that my blood type and general metabolic type had anything to do with this whatsoever. Until now, I was wondering why my health was falling so far off the rails, when my father has done so well. NOW Im wondering "what is my father’s blood type............." ? I guess its possible its O+ but somehow I doubt it. Mystery solved? Perhaps. I think Ill have to ask him. |

cmoore, I also grew up eating absolutely delicious home-cooked food (country style) and it was 95% avoids for me. It definitely showed up in my health all my life, sad to say. But hey, when my body got hold of beneficial (for me) food, it perked right up and began to correct imbalances as fast as it could. Your dad may be a type A, you know. You sure sound like a non-secretor with the type of health issues you've had. Are you sure you're a nonnie? |

I sent in the secretor test and came back as a secretor. It might not hurt to test again though. |

Many of these issues can compound each other to make it look like a non-secretor. I also had many of these issues and thought I was a Nonnie, but my test results were Secretor as well... My suggestion is to start healing the digestive/GI issues and all of the other issues will start working themselves out. I hear you with parents being healthier... All we can do is start where we are and heal ourselves. It takes time, and the body takes the time it needs, but it gets better. |

Could you trace back your father's blood type? Please remember that delicious butter does stay for you to enjoy immensely! Even better if you make ghee of it. Then it becomes excellent. You can use it with veggies, sommthies, carbs, compliant breads - anything! Are you a Gatherer? |

Cmoore, Yes I can relate to you, my parents are 86 and 87, and while Dad has some issues in recent years they both have had pretty good health. Mum has great health, no medications and still sharp as a button. Mum is A/B and Dad A. I'm reading Wheat Belly and the wheat/bread that our parents grew up with was good, it has been greatly engineered since the 1960's, and also most of us have had diets that have included processed food which our parents didn't have access to. Also the world has become more polluted with chemicals, perfumes, etc. We grew up in different times. We have more of a challenge to be healthy but lucky for us we found this great diet. Good luck. I am so interested in knowing his blood type.
I grew up with meat and potatoes until I thought all vegan was for me in high school... got really sick mentally and physcially.
anyhow, my father was an O and I have soooo many of his traits. The good thing is that I do not drink and he passed of cirrhosis of the liver. Luckily, I was gluten and dairy free for most of my life, but eating protein still feels relatively new to me in some ways.
keep us posted please |

My Hunter sister drinks coffee, eats toast, lets her oldest drink milk. My dad eats pasta, mom likes air popped popcorn. All Os, all aware of heart disease well on mother's side. My dad's family is thinner, healthier & long lived-grandmother lived to be 100 something. I don't tell them what to do because they don't listen anyway. My mom I'm sure will never eat butter, will always have fear of cholesterol etc. You just have to focus on your own health. |
