As as hunter we are advised to avoid milk. Is this because of the Lactose?  Also, would natural yogurt be ok to have as the lactose is minimal?

Yogurt is rated separately.

While lactose is one factor in the dairy ratings there are other factors as well. Anticipating a rating based on a single factor is not advisable.

Try just avoiding the milk and the yoghurt and you will be pleasantly surprised at how much better you will feel.

I have done a good job avoiding milk and have recently gone on to almond milk, so that's no problem... I'm just having a little trouble giving up the yogurt as it's so yummy   lol

Saying that. Even though I love the stuff I never feel quite a 100% right. I guess I'm just a little worried about getting enough calcium. I know dark leafy green veggies and almonds etc provide this, but I still feel it won't be enough. Maybe I'm worrying too much about it

Not sure about almonds or almond milk for you, but have you tried walnuts and pumkin seeds, they are usually okay for all O, I think.

I note your symbols does not say if you are + or - and whether you are a secretor or not.

usually you would know your rhesus status when you did a blood test.

We haven't had dairy for years now and have no calcium issues at all.

Ohh I forgot to update my profile. I gave blood recently and came back as O negative. I'm not sure about my secretor status. I'll have to arrange that next

Bone broths, sardines and salmon (eaten with the bones) and sesame seeds/tahini are all excellent sources of calcium and more bioavailable than the calcium in diary. You can also buy the 'photocal' supps for O from Eat Right for Your Type shop. Most yogurt will be made from low quality 'factory farmed' milk-so it's not really a healthy food stuff anyway.

Trust the portions / frequency from the book or SWAMI, and you'll do fine.  Also, as the digestive tract heals, it will do a much better job of assimilating what it needs from your diet.

If you're super worried about calcium, then take a calcium supplement- just make sure it's a good one with magnesium. Really, it's the dairy industry lobby that's convinced so many of us that we're facing nutritional deficiencies without dairy.

IMO, your best bet is to move away from finding substitutes for each individual dairy product you used to consume. You don't need soy yogurt or almond yogurt or rice yogurt. You don't need yogurt at all- find something else for times when you used to eat yogurt.

It's also OK to make changes slowly. If you already have a few days' worth of yogurt in the house, and nobody else is likely to eat it, it's OK to finish what you've already purchased but then not buy it again. There's no need to make dietary changes so quickly that you waste food.

Goat & sheep products are a tiny bit more tolerable than cow products which you will want to mostly eliminate.  Sadly   that means no yogurt or kefir.  If you get genotyped you can have some cheeses made with cow milk but only a few.

I eat Goat's Milk yogurt occasionally.
There used to be a source for buffalo milk yogurt and it was SO good but they closed the business and moved the herd to Canada.....it was so creamy and fabulous....

it has to do more with the proteins casein and whey. Lactose also, but the 2 main proteins are difficult for Os to digest, and in sensitive individuals can actually cause severe cystic acne.

my DH, an O+ hunter, if exposes to even just a small amount of milk, will develop a terrible cyst or boil within 24 hours. He had a terrible time when young, when everyone was pushing the dairy on him because he was growing so fast and he "needed" it.
