Certain fruits are too expensive to buy even when they are on sale and I recently discovered fruit powders which work out cheaper, plus even though vitamin c is greatly reduced during the process of turning fruit to powder, many other vits/minerals are about twice to three times the amount of fresh fruit when they are in powder form. However there's more sugar content in the powdered form which I don't know whether that's a problem as it's sugar from the fruit itself not anything added.
So am wondering what other people think, is fruit powder as recommended as fresh fruit in regards to the genotype diet? |

you first need to know which source that particular fruit powder comes from, before you think of purchasing fyi vitamin C in powder form is in fact mostly derived from corn ascorbic and citric acid.......yes I know, it sucks!!! |

If it's just dried fruit that's been ground up, then it should be fine. Just watch out for added ingredients, including things that might be added to keep the powder from caking up. The only fruit powders I've personally seen have been combination "supplements" that contain a mixture of avoid and compliant fruits for several different types (containing some fruits I can have and B's can't along with some Bs can have that O's can't) making the resultant mixture innapropriate for anybody. |

Apparently these powders are supposed to be 100% fruit dried to powder with nothing added. |

I found them on ebay but I'm a bit suspicious of whether they really are 100% fruit. |

Ask the seller for specific product information. Ebay isn't as well regulated as someplace like amazon.com, and the sellers may not list all the information you find important.
I'd pop an email to the seller before buying or bidding on them. Besides asking for an exact ingredient list, ask for the country of origin. Not all countries have the same standards regarding listing ingredients used in processing. If it's from an American or Canadian company and lists "freeze dried strawberries" then the product just contains strawberries. If it's from China and just says "strawberries" you really can't rely on that to be accurate. Not to mention that food from China is suspect anyway, due to pesticides in use there. |

Have you tried either of these companies C_sharp? The powders sound wonderful - like something I would like to have on hand all the time! |

While the products sound interesting, both znaturalfoods and nutrifruit.com were more expensive than I could afford. |

Yes, they are expensive - I looked at the prices before I posted. The shipping seems to be out of sight, though. I saw that Amazon carries some of them but I still can't get around the outlandish shipping/handling because of the source. I am more interested in the Goji berry powder and I can get that at Vitacost. But it would be nice to have another flavor too! |

Have just got an email back from the company saying there's nothing added they make the powders from 100% fruit juice - so if it's from juice what does that mean? Is it freshly squeezed and if so why didn't they use all the fruit to make it as surely the rest of the fruit would be wasted then?
Really does seem suspect. |

If it's designed to mix with water to create a non-gritty beverage, then making it from fruit juice makes sense. It's probably the exact same procedure as making powdered milk from fluid skim milk. They basically spray the liquid into the air, let it dry as little particles in the air, then collect the dried particles, now a powder. |

Have just found out they don't make them in this country, they are actually imported from China, so not really sure whether they really are going to be of good quality to be beneficial, probably best paying that little extra for the fresh stuff - least I know what I'm getting then. |
