I'm in the process of growing a scoby so i can start making my own kombucha tea.  It's a superfood for me and i feel really great when i drink it.

In my quest to grow a scoby and my subsequent net research i have come across info. that says that kombucha can damage the liver.

I'm wondering what people here may know about this and if anyone has been drinking it long-term, if so have they had liver testing stating that their liver is in good health?.

Thanks!
Mickey

We have been drinking if for a year.  It is a detox. (metals) as well a a probiotics. There is a couple of threads, most is how to make, flavor etc.  But there is a mention of drinking plenty of water during the day as well when your drinking kombucha.  Perhaps the comment you read is because people haven't been and therefore are trying to detox metals to fast and hard for their livers.

I have noted that at first it fills like you can't get enough then you slow down. I made a rule to drink 1 bottle a day. I have needed to detox and seem to feel the need to drink more lately.  which I am, I also drink more water to help flush out the toxins.

I'm also a O gatherer and have found kombucha very helpful.  Listen to you body.
It is a beneficial for us.

Lola,
My concern is not whether i can have kombucha or not, it's if it can cause liver damage.

Deblynn3,
When my kombucha tea is ready i will definitely make sure i drink plenty of water when consuming it.  I often am sceptable about claims against health alternatives, i know there are many out there who want to discredit that natural alternatives can work just as good as conventional ones.  There's plenty of money to be made on conventional medcinine, as the saying goes "just follow the money"!.  That's why i come here to get a more "unbiased" opinion.

Thanks!
Mickey

Lola was saying that if Dr. D has posted it as beneficial for your type, liver damage is not a concern.  For someone like myself whose diet tells me to best avoid it, I will not take chances with possible damages somewhere in my body.

I drink it with no problems and I am an Explorer and the Explorers have livers that are slow to function properly. I too am skeptical of 'the source' that mentions that kombucha creates liver damage. Kombucha is and easy, inexpensive, tasty beverage with many health benefits. Big Pharma must be aware of this.

Kombucha has endured for centuries and the people consuming it as well have passed down it's story.
