Tannins. It's got to be tea tannins. Just like in black teas I get nausea. (but don't throw up anymore.) Even coffee has tannins but I never experience this reaction with coffee! Coffee has oils in it. Am I brewing the tea too long to make bitterness release too many tannins? Anyone else have this reaction? |

What brand do you use? 3 grams (teaspoonful, but not too full) for 400-500 cl of hot water, please not too hot!!! They say 70 - 80 grades celsius, no more. This yields a very pleasant and tasty drink. Victoria once wrote, steaming but not boiling. Do you sweeten it? |

This is something that will disappear over time--- sometimes something is doing a good work inside us and it causes a bit of distress for a time.
You need to keep drinking it in small amounts.
One example is the effect radiation in cancer treatment. In the end it kills the bad cells but does make us feel not so good for a time. |

Are you drinking the green tea on an empty stomach, or with/after meals?
If I drink green tea on an emtpy stomach, I get nauseated. Sometimes I can tolerate it better if I put something with calories into the tea (such as grapefruit juice) but I generally drink my green tea with or after breakfast, rather than before. I have yerba mate first thing in the morning instead. |

hi Yaeli - thanks for the email! I used Twinings, and it was mixed with a bit of mint. No, I did not sweeten it. I had it at 4 pm when I was getting tired and at my house, we are always boiling the water. |

I LOVED yerba mate last year when it first started trending at gentrified coffee shops. What brand green tea do you prefer using? |

Errr...my mother takes cancer after-care drugs that do not involve radiation! Are you saying this nausea actually happened to you after experiencing green tea the first time? And if I never overcome the nausea, it seems to be better just to take it by capsule, if available. |

Interesting. Perhaps this is why Dr. D sez Japanese mix it with toasted powdered brown rice as an additive. My experience as an ex-bulimic has led me to the conclusion that carbs act like a sponge (to a certain extent) when something offensive is in the stomach. BTW I just found out only Arabica coffee has a small amount of tannins in it. Not the other kinds! HMMM. Tea-flavored coffee..... *light bulb going off over head*. Make tea-water and HIDE it in my instant decaf coffee.........could work at first! I like green tea perfume. Can we not simply spray it onto our bodies? *giggle* |
