Last week I had 9 vials of blood drawn for 19 tests. The cholesterol profile is much more detailed than any I had done before. When the first test was done, I didn't eat any meat from mammals. My protein came almost exclusively from seafood, with occasional poultry - mainly chicken In February my numbers were: Total Cholesterol 146 HDL 64 LDL 58 those were great numbers. Now it's: Total Cholesterol 194 HDL 60 LDL 111 That is quite a change for the worse and I really can't think of any reason other than my changed diet. I also found out that my LDL is Pattern A - Large Buoyant LDL. Which supposedly is a good thing Other food related results are: My Dr wants me to take 5000IU B-12 as I am in the lower range of normal. Folate is great, I seem to eat enough veggies. My Glucose is 85, which my Dr wants in the low 70 and my Insulin is 8.1 and she wants it below 5. I will have to cut back on my Swami carb portions to get there. In May I doubled my Vitamin D dosage and I switched brands and my levels went down, not up. Needless to say, I'm switching brands back to what I had before and take more of that brand. My Blood Pressure is 110/60. Pulse 56 I'm right on spot with my thyroid meds, T3 T4 and reverse T3 are all right where they are supposed to be. The best news from this test is that my thyroid antibodies are going down. Yay. Being off gluten and dairy for 10 months and my gut is starting to heal. Yay, Yay I will stick with Swami as far as beneficials and avoids are concerned (except dairy and gluten foods), but will have to modify my serving sizes and frequencies of the carbs and meats. |

Mine went up, too. What are your ratios? Also, I agree with the question about age and menopause. Finally have you started taking any medications? |

Are you still eating sufficient seafood from fatty cold-water fish?
Red meats should be from grass-fed animals, which are rich in Omega 3 fatty acids, the one that is high in seafood. Grain-fed animal meat is high in Omega 6, which does not tend to help our cholesterol level.

What was your diet like before? I'm trying to figure out exactly what you changed when you implemented BTD. What supplements were you taking then vs now? I'm trying to figure out if you made any "negative changes" along with implementing SWAMI. Was your B-12 level low before too?
Have you changed your exercise routine? Have you lost or gained any weight?
Sometimes cholesterol numbers temporarily go up as part of healing. There's a theory that cholesterol isn't a problem in and of itself, but that it's a response to toxins in the bloodstream; a protective response. Cholesterol levels go up when toxins go up. According to this theory, high cholesterol levels are associated with heart disease because the toxins that lead to elevated cholesterol also cause damage on their own, and diets that reduce the toxin load lower the heart risk as well as cholesterol levels.
If you've been releasing toxins through losing weight and/or deep healing, your body may be producing more cholesterol while dealing with these extra toxins. If this is the case, your cholesterol levels will naturally drop once the detoxing/deep healing is complete. |

I heard there was a cancer link in cholesterol that is too low. As others have said, there are changes going on. Test again in several months. |

I also once came across a passage that said too low cholestorel could be an indicator of stroke! But then, for B's and O's, triglycerides are more important than cholestorel from heart function wise. |

Yep, Large Buoyant LDL shouldn't be harmful. Especially now that your blood pressure is that good Only small ldl is what should be diminished... Mortality rate is actually quite low if there are enough cholesterol |

Maybe the diet "fixed" what it considered cholesterol that was too low. We DO need cholesterol. I was reading where one doctor said if his got below 200 it would scare him to death! I'm afraid that big pharma has created a lot of hoopla about that number being too high so they can get everyone in the entire country on meds that practically disable some people! I would take the 200 number 'way before I would consider any drugs. Not that this was even mentioned in the post, but I'm just commenting since the subject of increasing cholesterol came up! |
