Well it's that time of year when it starts to get all chilly outside and nothing would taste better than a hot slice of pizza in a nice, cozy pizza place. Surrounded by people who are mostly just total strangers but people! The blood type O thing! Social! Out and about and enjoying life, not just all cooped up at home doing something boring like reading or surfing online.
Pizza really is so evil but no one of course at the pizza place knows this or cares..... the sniffles, temper tantrums, ear infections, bloat, fat gain etc and it seems ime that no amount of exercise/detox/glucosamine etc reverses it.
Face it people we are the most boring people in diet world, we really are.
I am starting to think about my birthday and how far I've come this year. I may have cake but I'm really thinking I should go the extra mile and do gluten free. But that means I'll be at home by myself and not someplace fun around people....
We need to discuss this as a group for the newbies also who may land here and wonder how they will get through the season also.
I made a gluten free cake for my little one's bday & some buttercream frosting w/ organic powdered sugar (no cornstarch) & cocoa powder for the frosting. My guess is that it was about 90 % compliant, and I'm okay with that. Gotta celebrate those special occasions!

Well, yes, I had some of my sons pizza yesterday, but I felt like c**p after it. It was thick crusted, yuck! I tend to make some nice risotto when I start craving pizza, or rice pasta with all the fixings. I do not have tomato as a bennie on my swami, so even eating the red sauce is something hard to do. But you can have it once in a blue moon, just not on a regular basis. I find once I start eating wheat, the addiction sets in and I want more. It's a vicious cycle that only is broken when I cook gluten free alternatives. After all these years, I am still working on compliance. But with my health issues, I keep coming back to this diet. For years I ate some dairy, still do, but I am realizing it's as bad for me as wheat. Back to the BTD board if you know what I mean. Changing your diet is hard to do, but I feel that success comes in finding substitutes for the things you miss, like pizza. I make pizza rice risotto. It has a bit of red wine, some mozzarella, lots of oregano, some tomato, etc and it's very warm and filling. But not low carb, that's for sure!!!

Sorry, Sahara, but I have not had a pizza for at least 10, maybe 15 years. I have made many for the family and bought many more when I didn't want to cook. The aroma is wonderful. Unfortunately I would wake up terribly hung over after eating pizza. And all that hung over feeling came without a drop of alcohol! Eating wheat, dairy and tomatoes just wasn't good, so all of the good memories associated with pizza are gone.
Hope that you can find some suitable pizza to help you through the change of seasons.

My kids actually stuck a birthday candle in a beef burger for my birthday this year.
I'd been planning to bake (or have one of the teens bake) a cheesecake for me with compliant ingredients, but in the end we just didn't feel like putting in the effort. We enjoyed a quiet evening at home with not much special planned; just a DVD from the library to watch as a family.
I don't know if my teens will plan something bigger next year when I turn 40, but by then we'll have perfected O nonnie baking.

It may be hard in our culture, but I'm sure we can learn to associate birthdays & other special events without using food as the center of it. With DVDs & other cheap home entertainment ideas, we can maybe have a special movie night. We can have a special compliant meal or if there is cake offered by others(like at work), we don't have to eat it, but can enjoy others as they celebrate. I guess it may be easier for me as I was raised with very few sweets & the concept of having regular dessert is foreign to me. That sounds like a huge nutritional disaster. As I also do some food combining, it is very bad to eat sweets, even fruit after all that other food.
I guess there are ways to cook a meat dish with pizza seasonings. I'm not an expert baker, but is it easy to make a rice-based crust with lots of pizza-flavored hamburger over it? We Os can have tomatoes, & for me, after so many years of being dairy-free, I can do without the cheese. Of course, the repercussions of eating dairy make me avoid it!
My birthday was earlier this month. I didn't plan a formal celebration, but happened to have a meeting that day. I offered to bring some small cupcakes from the bakery I worked at as refreshments. I didn't have to eat them, but left them for the others. Some friends there gave me cards & a couple gave me something which I didn't expect. So, it was a nice day... Next year is a big b'day, so I have a silly plan. Let's see if it works out.

Zero. Unless made with rice flour dough and romano cheese. (I just picked a random cheese from the Hunter list in GTD, those with SWAMI will have to vary their pizzas accordingly.)

I actually did not eat pizza much if at all for about 15 years. Then one day 3 years ago I picked up a slice during the recession...... it became an addiction, I think.

An addiction? Ouch. I really liked donuts, especially the double chocolate ones. It wasn't until I gave up gluten that I realised just how much I was "hooked". (To celebrate birthdays at the office, the birthday person brought in donuts. I could not resist. )

Well really only one serving per week..... ok two slices and a glass of wine, that was my meal. I just looked forward to it so much--the environment, aroma, and overall feeling. People never commented on my weight much in the 2000s till I started up with the pizza and I'm pretty small.

Oh, how civilised!! Wine and 2 slices of pizza. I can see how pizza could be readily associated with a really good experience. Is it the same if you make the pizza out of beneficials and neutrals?

I found a pizzeria about 15 minutes away from me that has gluten free pizza and I have had it a few times. It was quite good and the feeling of having pizza was wonderful.
I did notice that I had to drink quite a bit more water afterward and so I suspect that the tomato sauce is heavily salted.
The other day I tried it again but asked them to make a white pizza - gluten free crust, olive oil, garlic, chopped fresh tomato, onion and mozzarella. It was heavenly and I didn't need to increase the water so I think I will go that route from now on. It is nice to have this option for a treat once a month, makes you feel normal!

O-man need to try spinach, mushroom, mozzarella, on whatever flat bread you can have. Spices..... a little spice goes a long way. and kombucha in a wine glass. well.... red wine if it on your list
I love pizza but it kicks my backside every time I eat it--even the gluten-free stuff does because of the gums and avoid flours in the dough as well as the tomato sauce and cow's milk cheese, so it's homemade or nothing. A few minutes of something tasting good isn't worth two weeks of feeling like someone's wrung-out, tatty old dishrag. Or as my twin Peppermint Twist puts it, 'nothing tastes as good as health feels'.
For homemade I use the flax foccaccia recipe in Typebase for the dough and put a bunch of good veggies on top with a bit of manchego or pecorino, or some goat cheese. I don't do tomato sauce because I'm off nightshades for good now, but don't really miss it anyway. The result is delicious! I had this for my birthday last year along with a chocolate ganache cake and it was so nice to wake up the next day and not feel miserable.
