I was extremely surprised to measure my daughter and to find that, according to the GTD measurements AND in spite of my lying eyes, she has a longer torso than legs! Let me show you! Below is a link to a sequence of a photos of Dorothy. Hit the "next" arrow to see the progression: In photo 1: Dorothy's basic photo - age 12, height: 52", weight 75 lbs. Notice how she is "spidery" - all legs and arms! Appears to have no body whatsoever... Of course her body is shorter than her legs, your eyes say! The next photo (2) shows you the illusion more clearly. The red line is at her natural waist and the top of her shoulders: BUT, when measured using the GTD methods, the final photo shows that she is ACTUALLY longer torso'd than legged. Here is the progression: ( I wanted to insert the photos, but couldn't) Lesson learned? ALWAYS measure! BTW, after fingerprints, etc., it turns out that, even with a longer torso than legs, she is, very clearly, a HUNTER! |

Her body shape is the typical I would not bother to measure. Her legs certainly look longer than her torso. I think she is going to be quite tall with very aesthetic proportions. I guess BTD for her till she finishes growing. |

I'm "bumping" this, just because I really think that it's important, and I'm hoping to save someone some measuring mistakes or incorrect assumptions. Here is the link I made showing a measuring illusion. Click on the "next" arrow above each picture to see my error! https://picasaweb.google.com/E.....#5569876992034063362 |

ME! I am built very, very similar to Dorothy BUT I have a much shorter neck and the length from my crotch to my navel is shorter. If you saw us in similar outfits, side-by-side, you'd think that we were similar, but that her legs were even longer, proportionately, than mine. But upon a closer look, visually, it is clear that her neck is much longer than mine, her head is proportionately bigger (larger - I have a pretty small head for my shoulders/ body), and that's a large part of where she gets the inches in torso length! Like I said...it's an illusion and measuring carefully is really important! |

I am the same way... I do look like I have much longer legs than torso but it is just an illusion. My hips are quite narrow plus I have quite a long neck which together creates the illusion. Also... we are used to thinking of our torso as ending at the shoulders and not including the head. |

EXACTLY!!! That's why I posted that link to the photos! We think that short-WAISTED is the same as short-TORSO'd, and, from those photos, it's really clear how we can be visually fooled! |

I just remeasured myself after reading this. I always thought my legs were longer but now I found that my legs and torso are about equal. Is that an option in swami? It's time locked so I can't change it to see. |

Oh, absolutely! She's not yet really started her true growth, BUT, I'm positive that she is a Hunter, even if it ends up that her legs are longer than her torso. She types out that way regardless! I just wanted to use her as a very clear example of never assuming anything until measuring! Another thing to notice: Dorothy is VERY symmetrical! If you look at her face, each side of her face is an EXACT mirror of the other, showing her Hunter genotype. Her father is the same. The sides of my face are not symmetrical. My eyes are on slightly different planes and are slightly different in size and shape. Even my nose and mouth are not symmetrical, if divided down the middle, unlike hers, which match perfectly. My father's features are even less symmetrical than are mine, to the point that it is strange how different the sides of his face are. |

Rachel, My understanding to measure for torso, is the measurement to the top of the head, if this is correct, this her neck and head is counted in upper torso measurement, does that make a difference? |

Exactly! That's why her torso is longer than her legs, even though she is short-waisted. Though she has almost no torso from her waist to her shoulders, she's long-necked, and long from her crotch to her waist....giving her a longer torso (in GTD terms and measures) than legs! |

Great, from the picture, I didn't think you was counting the neck and head, but you are right the eyes really make her legs look longer!!
I read someplace (not here) that if you take mom's height in inches and dad's height in inches and divide by 2 you have the height, for children, (I think there is another step, if it's a boy you add so many inches and if a girl maybe subtract) been a long time, but that would be an estimate. Also, read if you triple the height at one year of age, you get the height as an adult. |
