For beginners on the GenoType Diet, how important is the washout period? Will the diet still work (just take longer to see benefits) without following the washout period? Thanks for any information or experience with this.
I'm not trying to avoid it, I'm just finding that I can actually follow the diet pretty well if I exclude the washout items, and I want to start somewhere rather than go back and forth. Nicole |

I don't know what you mean by washout period and washout items. Can you clarify? |

NWiser, Are you talking about adding black dots in to your diet after a 90 day washout period? |

Yes, I'm talking about the black dot items. I'm wondering if I consume the black dot items without adhering to the 90 day washout period, if I will still get some benefit from the diet? The black dot items are not avoids past the 90 days, so I'm just wondering if the diet will still work if the 90 day washout period is not followed. I understand that the progress will be slower. I just want to know if it will ruin any benefits I might get from the diet if I do eat these foods and not "detox". Thanks! |

They are not avoids but they never become beneficials.
They will make you gain weight and possibly do other unwanted things to your body. I feel that they are the foods to eat when you are out at a friends house or you just can't help it.
You are a nonnie even more important in my opinion to stick close to the bene/diamond foods.

The black dot items are toxins that your body MAY be able to handle after the initial 90 day reset (washout) period. If you never get off of these items, you will never allow the body to reset and you will not be able to tell if you feel worse or gain weight when you add them in later... I don't know how you would ever know if the black dot items were a concern for you... |

I agree completely! And like Andrea said it's even more important because you are a nonnie. Very true for me |

I've always considered black dots as foods I would only eat if I had no other options. I didn't eat any black dots until the washout period was over. After the washout period was over, I considered them to be like a list below the neutrals...The most important foods are superfoods and diamonds. These are the foods that help to reset your genetics. I don't feel guilty if I eat a black dot food, but I feel 100% better on superfoods. They comprise about 90% or more of my diet each day. |

I see that for some the "washout" phase is 90 days, for some 60 days, SWAMI has determined mine to be 60 days. Is that how everyone arrives at their duration period, what SWAMI recomends? I guess that for some it can even be longer? I'm at approx 52 days right now, and wouldn't you know it, we are having houseguests for T'giving through the weekend - guess I'll have to start all over once the Holidays are past. |

I agree! Black Dot items are a 'last resort' food that I eat at those rare times when my choices are severely limited (long trip, eating out, eating at a friends' house or at a party). These times may literally be a couple of times a year. I never buy black dot foods for my home. And Andrea is correct about the nonnie issue. We do not have as much lee-way as secretors if we are serious about getting/staying healthy. I ignore the wash-out period and just consider black dots to be a mild Toxin that are not part of my food plan. |

I view black dot foods as "foods to eat once in a while in very small quantities." I do not see them as "neutrals" at all- they're toxins that are only mildly toxic, and my body can handle them every once in a while without causing any damage, as long as I don't overdo it. I probably eat black dots about once every 2 months, or possibly even less often. |

So, I was approx 52 days into my 60-day washout phase when my company arrived for the T'giving weekend. Going into the Holiday season now, I will eat as compliant as possible without isolating myself from the festivities, and start my 60-day washout over again in January. Well, four days off my SWAMI and now my face is breaking out and itching, my knees are reminding me of another reason I love my diet and I am experiencing complete and total digestive discomfort. All in four days!!! I don't have any critical health condition, I am doing the SWAMI for health maintainance and to interrupt the possbility for cancer (A related) and risk of dimentia (hereditary). On the way to the airport yesterday, to see off my company, we had breakfast at a great local diner. As I was savoring each and every lucious taste of my eggs Benedict - with ham and a sprinkling of Tabasco, all I could think of besides how yummy it was, was that I was so glad that was going to be my last non-compliant meal. Happy Season to all |

I avoided many of them the first few months back on the diet but also ate a few like tomatoes because it was summer........ I had carrots last week and still don't tolerate so I don't know what the answer is. Black dots should probably be avoided during the washout and then used sparingly afterwards. |
