As I was doing the genotype testing today I noticed that my fingerprints have a lot of white lines in them. Dr. D'Adamo mentioned in his fingerprints videos that this can indicate an intolerance to lectins or glutens, and that people with celiac disease sometimes have them (the white lines).
I thought my fingers were just pruny cause I don't drink enough water. Any thoughts? (One thing I've noticed about my eating habits is that I don't like to eat a lot of bread. I don't even like to look at it.) |

White lines are an indication of a damaged intestinal lining. Could be from lectins and/or gluten. Being dehydrated would not cause this. The good news is that in about a year it will get better, can take longer or shorter in some people. I would even say that it is a sign of aging, which the genotype diet reverses. |

I have white lines too - and I'm not sure where they're from, either. I don't eat much wheat, or have a problem with it to my knowledge. I have always eaten a lot of tomatoes - so I think maybe thetomato lectin caused this? Not sure. |

Just remember, gluten isn't necessarily just wheat. Gluten is in alot of things that you would never suspect.....such a soy and teriaki sauces, many salad dressings, alot of "processed" foods, canned foods, some tomato sauce, wines...even such crazy things such as makeup and stickers. I went gluten free about 2 years ago and it took many months of label reading for me to get the gist of it. Luckily, these days so many of the labels will state right on it if it is gluten free. You can also purchase the Gluten Free Shopping guide" which is a list of basically everything in any major grocery store which is gluten free (though not necessarily "certified" GF. It's a process....just like this diet...to figure it all out. By the way, I still have white lines....so it is definately not just gluten that causes them. Though I would imagine the lines were alot worse two years ago....... |

For several months I ate almost nothing but cereal and TV dinners (long story--had a death in the family and lost all desire to cook for awhile).
So maybe that could lead to white lines? Or does it take longer?
A couple of years ago I saw a naturopath on a fairly regular basis. Last time he did the bioenergetic testing on me, he said I could have "leaky gut syndrome". But I don't seem to have symptoms for that, or celiac disease for that matter. (I had been taking Advil for months before that appt. Since that time I've rarely used it.) |

Well, cereal generally contains gluten....or most of it does anyway. And I'm sure TV dinners are loaded with stuff that would cause leaky gut (incidentally, damage to your intestinal lining and leaky gut are the same thing). Please don't feel guilty about it....you did what you had to do to survive during a very rough period. Rather, congratulate yourself that you made it....your gut can be fixed!!!! And chances are, your gut probably wasn't "optimal" before that time anyway. So no guilt, no blame....just progress! |

Not just from wheat but lectin damage. |

Dang, no wonder I have so many white lines!! Up till now my diet has been pretty much ONLY grains (pasta, bread, bagels, cereal, etc.) and way too much Advil (athlete). Thanks for this thread! I'm curious to see what happens to them with this new diet... |

I was told it by my practitioner that it would take at least a year after removing the lectins/gluten for my gut to heal completely and white lines to disappear. I guess it is a good thing time is flying.....haha! |

Nahhh, water has got nothing to do with it. It's like what Andrea said. The white lines are the health indicator of your digestive system. In Dr D's GTD book, page 73, it did said "these white lines begin to vanish with the maintenance of a gluten-free diet". So once you follow BTD / GTD accordingly, you WILL see & feel the difference. Besides you are in this forum, we have lots of helpful knowledgeable people here, you are in safe hands newtypeA That gluten thing...is very sneaky!!! I went to the supermarket today, looked at the fresh counter & saw this gorgeous looking pieces of salmon. Looked at the label and it said - Salmon with garlic & rosemary. So I said great! Then I read small print, it said : contain gluten. I was like...what |

I used to take hydroxyzine to sleep (chronic insonia) and aslo take lots of ibuprofen ( injuries) and wonder if the antinflammatory and antihistamine meds may have contributed to the white lines on my fingertips. |

newtypeA I have been avoiding gluten almost entirely for a year now, and still have them. I think it has to do with milk products, sugar, and other things for me as well. My intestines seem to get inflamed or something with the introduction of many things. At least I assume so... my gut sticks out more or digestion is slow.
Meghan remove gluten and caesin for awhile to find out if you are sensitive to it. I would of never known I was until I tried life without it (not that it does not make it back in from time to time for whatever reason, like me wanting to believe cheese can do some good for me). Just so you know autistic people very typically respond amazingly well to gluten & caesin free diets.
Also do you have any cranberry in your life? Cranberry works great for counteracting things in Type A's system that should not be there/reactants. If I eat something with gluten just drinking some watered down cranberry juice clears my head up so it is not so much like having blurry almost tunnel vision by comparison. Also go light on carbohydrates before sleep if your thyroid is well for sure (say if you are a super taster or taster). Mine seems to be toast so I have to eat something before I sleep but too much and I am awake all night. I think gluten and caesin, or at least wheat, keeps me up too. I have never slept well my whole life except maybe when I was on high detox diet with no gluten/caesin. That was brief though because I ate sugar in chocolate thinking it was ok and things went downhill with that and lots of peppers. |

Destroyer of smiles - thank you. I definitly suspect that I have a problem with gluten and casein. I was diagnosed with autism at age 17. Rainy, humid weather, btw, seems to make things worse. I know there are more cases of autism in states like Florida and can't figure out why researchers think it has something to do with kids being inside longer beause of the rain and spending more time in front of the tv. I know its the weather and micotoxins. My gut is irritated when it rains, my ADD returns and I can't sleep, either. I do eat cranberries when they are in season, and - I'm glad you told me how beneficial they can be. I have never slept well, and find that a low-carb diet combined with exercise seems to help. My blood sugar drops at night - so I need protein in the everning or I wake up and throw up. Just thought I'd share. |

Up until several months ago, I drank milk every day. (In the summer, I drink it like water. Glasses of it.)
Switched to soy until a few weeks ago, then went back on cow's milk. Ears are starting to feel irritated again. I had recurring ear infections growing up.
Meghan's post made me think...A while back I told Mom that I might have ADD and she thinks she might have it too. (My sister thinks I might have Asperger's.) All I know that my head tends to be in the clouds more often than not. Can cow's milk trigger this? (Mom is a big milk drinker, too. We both put a lot of flavored creamer in coffee.)

I would not drink any animal milk period....
I have trouble sleeping on a lack of protein as well occasionally, lately I have had too much sleep for other reasons. I have never thrown up because of it, but eating some protein lets me go back to sleep better than honey or any other form of carbohydrates.
Meghan how much mold does it cause there? I have no idea why the rain itself would cause issues but something it does or brings with it? Very interesting... Also pure cranberry juice, very potent, needs to be mixed with something, but is fantastic for detox/blocking bad stuff in Type A system. (part of the deflect product) |

Commercial milk is defintely bad for most of us - type O the worst, but type A right behind us! I don't think of milk as a drink, but more like a food. I can't imagine drinking more for thirst! (I avoid it completely.)
Try to go without it & use calcium/magnesium/boron/vit.D/etc. for your calcium absorption. Even quite a few folks that are type B, which is supposed to be OK for dairy, have problems with it. The processing, that is the law in most of the US, makes it worse. |

I think that was the most disturbing part of the genotyping process for me. When I read that part of the book, looked at my fingertips, and actually saw some white lines I was really shocked. I don't have a ton, but a few.... that is very telling. My husband has them too.
For the past 5 or more years I have really cut down my carbs (breads and pastas mostly) with the exception of oatmeal which I absolutely love and eat everyday. I have a feeling that I would have seen more white lines a few years back. |

I just checked my fingerprints tonight and after 2 years I can see a significant improvement in the elimination of the white lines. I admit I have not completely eliminated wheat from my eating plan (90% compliant) but what I've eliminated has made a huge difference. Some miracles take more time than others. |

newtypeA, you said "my head tends to be in the clouds more often than not. Can cow's milk trigger this?" I believe food sensitivies causes brain fog, not sure if this would relate to your head in the clouds. I discovered getting off dairy/gluten seemed to help me think clearer. Lin |

I have white lines too but I have leaky gut syndrome. In the book it says:
"If you are thrifty like the Warrior or Gatherer, you'll want to increase your use of low-glycemic carbohydrates. If you've discovered that you have fingerprint white lines and follow these carbohydrate recommendations, the lining of your intestines will improve within a few months."
But I guess that is assuming you are a secretor Warrior or Gatherer. |
