Gynic: thighs touch when standing with ankles together. Andric: space between thighs when standing with ankles together.
My bet is that people with gynic legs have flat feet and people with andric legs have high arches. |

What about medium arches? I've got gynic legs and neither high nor flat arches. Just a happy medium From Wikipedia: People with a Medium arch have a distinct curve along the inside of the foot with a band slightly less than half the width of the foot connecting the heel and toe. People with medium arch are likely to have a neutral stride, although sometimes even medium arches can have their drawbacks and negative effects. Although sometimes called the "normal" arch, this may appear as a misnomer because nobody has 'normal' arches within their feet. Also, medium arches may sometimes overpronate and lead to physical problems resembling the issues of Pes planus. Other times, however, medium arches might under pronate in the same way high arched feet could under pronate sometimes. |

I have medium arches too, but I voted "high arches" since I definitely don't have flat feet!
I definitely have gynic legs, but I'm also about 30-40 lbs overweight. I'm trying to remember what my thighs were like when I was thinner- I know they didn't always rub together when I walked, but maybe they touched when my ankles were squished together? |

Be this true or not, I'm afraid there's no chance the poll as is is going to reflect it. Gynic lets and flat feet here. |

I thought it was logical....You know, if your knees nob in, it would make since that you would walk on the inside of your feet (flat feet, calluses on the insides of your big toes, etc). If your legs bow out completely, it would make since that you'd walk on the outside of your feet (high arches). |

Well ribbit, I'm almost bow legged, andric legs and have super flat feet. I thought mine was all the cabinet installing I did in my late 20's, early 30's. I hauled a lot of heavy cabinets and desking for quite a spell.
The chiro I used to go to had some super duper expensive insoles made up for me custom (put my foot in a mold and such) about 8 years ago, and I still use them now. The top fabric layer came off, but that don't matter, they really make my feet and legs feel better when I use them. I don't know what I'll do when they fall apart. They've held up pretty well though. |

Really? My feet are very flat and every time I've tried any sort of arch support, they drive me nuts! (Maybe partly because I'm a super-sensitive nonnie.) I would feel like I was walking with a golf ball under each arch. Terrible, I tell you. Terrible. Even some sneakers have arches too high. It's hard to fit shoes. Flipflops are the best thing ever invented. Too bad they're not warm in winter. |

I had really flat feet and tons of foot problems. Then I went gluten free. Within hours my arches came back! Boy were my feet flat growing up. My feet weakened somewhat eating the wrong diet and now they are getting stronger on the Teacher diet, so my digestion whether related to gluten or other digestive problems can translate to changes in my feet. |

ABJoe...not sure about the US, but here when our insoles fall apart all you have to do is bring them back to the chiro and they ship them back to the company to fix them. Not sure how long that warranty is on them for, but I know when I worked for the chiro last year there were people coming in with insoles that were 3 and 4 years old to have repaired for free. Gynic legs and flat feet - when I walk on wet bare feet my footprints show no discernible arch 'gap' at all. |

Andric legs and medium arches. I had collapsed arches (flat feet) for more than 10 years since my mid-20s but I gained back my arches by doing Egoscue exercises and ballet. Chandon's story of gaining back the arch by going gluten-free is amazing to hear! For those of you who are interested in the Egoscue exercises for foot problems (including flat feet), please have a look at this video that I have made: http://youtu.be/Sc02S_vqLpU |

I have very andric legs and flat feet. Standing with my ankle bones touching, even my knees don't touch. My legs are very thin, though, but muscular. I pronate inward and also have corrective insoles from a chiropractor. I use them in my running shoes, but not in my other shoes. It took me a while to get used to them, but I am used to them now.
Would my legs look even more andric if I had higher arches? |

I think "flat feet" is mostly from pronation of the entire leg
How in the world can you pronate the entire leg? Pronation takes place easily at the forearm as the radius pivots, but the leg? Ribbit, andic vs gynic would have more to do with the bones of the leg than of the arches of the foot. One more way we are all individuals. |

Pronation can indeed happen to the feet. Some people call it "rolling in" of the feet = dropping of the arches. This actually has more to do with how the hips are tilted than how the legs are shaped (andric or gynic).
For those of you who have flat feet/dropped arches, look into the mirror sideways and see if your hips are tilted at an angle toward the front (like sloping down). That posture can be corrected and the related flat feet be cured. (There are people who are born with structural flat feet, and do not fall under this category.) |
