I was watching the discovery channel and they said that one of the main reasons our brains developed faster was because cooked food put less stress on our digestive system, giving us more energy for our brain to use.  What does the diet think about cooked food?

I beleave I viewed the same show and they were mostly referring to the cooking of meat as it reduces the time required to digest. Vitamin and mineral extraction from root vegetables such as carrots is increased by boiling, steaming or roasting. Some leaf vegetables such as kale and collards can use a small amount of cooking to allow easier digestion but over cooking does reduce vitamin and phytoneutreint availability. Minerals are not so greatly affected by cooking. Forgive the spelling

The diet does not specify raw versus cooked. Some choose to follow a raw diet. Most people on the diet include both raw and cooked food items.

Some of the downsides to cooking are:
  • It destroys nutrients
  • It destroys enzymes
  • It can create free radicals and other chemical agents that are harmful to the body

Digestibility of raw or undercooked foods varies from individual to individual and food to food. Then there are always some exceptions where cooking is required to detroy harmful enzymes or so on.

So there is no hard and fast rule, or one-size-fits-all approach to the issue. Shouldn't be surprised!

I have a bit harder time digesting raw foods unless they're somewhat soft to begin with.

Speaking of which, today I was at Whole Foods and a girl there was giving out samples of grilled teriyaki albacore steaks.  The middle was basically still raw (but fresh).

So I ate a bite, and it was absolute bliss.  I much prefer the Teacher diet.

I wish I liked raw better. If I had a vita-mix & made smoothies, I'd have it easier.
I also suspect that Os need more cooked than other types.
Does the master have any input on which types do better on raw or cooked & what percentages?
I do eat lots of fruit in season. Maybe that counteracts the cooked veggies I eat.
