After being on the O nonnie diet with daily smoothies of banana, blueberries, mango etc., I am really missing my energy boosting pick-me-up.

Has anyone got any suggestions for a daily smoothie or blender drink for an Explorer?

add your diamond fruit....
lecithin, yeast, linseed, chia, nuts of choice, an egg if compliant.......etc.

How about pineapple and whey, on it's own, or with cranberry juice.

Thanks Lola, but nutritional yeast and linseed/flax is out and most nuts that you would make a milk from such as almond, cashew, brazil, walnut etc. also out.   I used to pop an egg in my smoothie prior to changing but I don't have any access to the unusual compliant eggs over here

Thanks teri, I have pineapple juice and frozen cranberries which makes a nice cool drink and I did buy some whey protein powder from the supermarket.... but I am going very slowly with this as dairy has been a little hard getting back into without symptoms

Cheers

Macademia nuts make the best milk imo. Nice mild flavour, very light colour and smooth, creamy texture. I just add water to the nut butter and blend well. Probably taste great with pineapple and whey in a smoothie. And compliant with food combining rules too!

That's what I have been doing and I nearly always end up popping in an avoid banana or the like.

My energy levels have been down lately and I'm tired of snacking on pecans and sultanas(neutral).

Thought a bit of brainstorming on here might help.....

Sorry, shells, guess we posted at the same time. I didn't think about you being an O and easing back into the dairy world.

I would use the whole pineapple in a smoothie, not just the juice. Might be nice without the whey too.

Though I love bananas, I've never liked them in smoothies cause they have a way of taking over the flavour of everything else. Like mustard in a sandwich.

Sounds great teri, do you just blend a bag of macadamia nuts into butter and what perhaps double the quantity of water?  Do you add any sweetener...honey?

Do you use a blender or coffee grinder and do you need to strain?

I buy the nut butter ready made in a jar. It's not one of the more common nut butters on the market up here but a few select health food stores do carry it. I'm sure any of the stores would order it in for me in bulk at a good price if I asked. Every once in awhile I find them on sale and clean them out. I figure there are probably not a lot of known Explorers around here looking for macademia nut butter so I don't feel guilty for not leaving any behind.

I add one heaping tablespoon of nut butter to about one cup of water and blend away. You can adjust from there for consistency of your liking. I add a little sea salt and sometimes a bit of maple syrup, though it doesn't really need either, has a nice flavour on its own.

I've never attempted to make nut butter before. You'd probably just need a good hand blender. Soaking and straining probably not necessary. Notice the "probably's", I'm just guessing.

Blending nut butter into a smoothie...what an interesting idea...I will definitely try it.  Thanks for the suggestion.  I do as Lola suggested...I add what I have at hand & it usually is very tasty...I even tried watermelon once...thought it would be awful but it too was very good.

I discovered chia seeds a few months ago, and this is a very delightful addition to my family's smoothies.  You can grind them in a little seed or coffee mill and put them into some liquid:  juice or whatever.  Then add some powdered lecithin and blend the dickens out of it.  It becomes emulsified and thick, (as if you have added yogurt or banana to it).

This makes a good base for whatever else you want to put in, such as superfood fruits like pineapple or raspberries.

Ground Chia, blended with lecithin has really taken the place of dairy for my gatherer daughter.
